Surely it is no more difficult than providing the quarter past opt in the news bulletins?

That doesn't vary regionally day-by-day though does it? The original suggestion was rotating the Sunday Politics region week-by-week, as Inside Out does. My response was that also varying the tease was a bit more problematic.

Are these opts live too currently - as we approach conference season?

They were live today.

Just checked my recording of London where Politics Live reporter Elizabeth Glinka hosted instead of Jo Coburn.

I know it should be obvious what it actually means, but just saying "for your local programme, retune to BBC One" while the ident says BBC One is confusing.

Yes, the HD version is used to downsample down to SD, but would it kill them to just have the simple "HD" tag at the end of the logo like they used too?

Or just reword the introduction to "This is BBC One HD, Now Sunday Politics London. For your local area, retune to your regional variation."

Presumably London has it's own ident introducing the show, right?

Although, can you really blame them? I don't think it's unreasonable for most people to assume that the national broadcaster would be able to broadcast regional variations in HD by 2018!

I was surprised by your comment. It's all very well suggesting that the BBC should have a fully HD English Regional service, but of course there would be objections to the upfront cost of completing it all now.

The TV Licence payer can't expect to eat the cake, if they're only prepared to pay for the empty plate. The BBC have invested money in regional HD, but it will take time to roll out. I can't imagine anyone is really losing sleep over the delay.

ITV have made all their regions available in HD for revenue purposes, not for any noticeable benefit for the viewer.

There are plenty of pointers to viewers on BBC One HD to indicate when regional programmes are only available in SD.

No need to be surprised - to be clear, I don't care one way or another as I find BBC regional news to be as dull as ditch water. I was merely pointing out that to the average person watching TV on a Sunday morning, not cognisant of the technical and financial barriers, it would seem strange that the BBC cannot provide HD regional content in 2018 when ITV can. I was just trying to provide an explanation for the tweets you referenced.

London SD was the same as HD.

North West are now using the main studio, I think they used to use the area that the Breakfast opts come from? The lack of turnaround time after Breakfast means they aren't doing a lot of redressing, just changing the backgrounds and colour of the lighting.

Marr. Main show was a poor choice of words, but I believe there was a regional opt tease for the Sunday Politics during Marr, about half-way through, or was I mistaken?

You are correct, noggin. There was a tease for the regional opts during Marr

London's opt is a Juniper production for whatever reason (they make This Week) too.

I think it's always been a Juniper production. The regional production credits used to run during the end of the network show. The regional output isn't entirely exempt from independent production quotas.

Yes, it was outsourced to Juniper when it became The Politics Show

London seems to be the only one faithful to how the Sunday Politics used to be with the reveal through the 'S', the proper beds and stings, the stretch zoom transition and the long close with credits.

Most other regions either done one or two of those or none at all.
