Showing a clip of 1980s wrestling to illustrate a story is so Daily Politics.

The desk will all those guests is so crowded ,does Morning Joe have that amount of people behind theirs?

Or wouldn’t they just switch to the News Channel? That seems most cost effective and easiest option.

Why would Marr be treated any differently to any other BBC One OB programme that falls off air?

Because Marr is made differently. Most OB shows are self-contained OBs with everything on-site (graphics, VT inserts etc.).

Marr - and most news / politics OB-based shows - don't work like this. Instead the OB is a minimal, low-cost, cameras-only solution and works into a remote gallery (normally the main gallery used when the show is in a studio) and the gallery plays in graphics, VT inserts etc. rather than the OB. This means it is far easier to provide a 'backup' option - and may be used to justify not putting in place as resilient an OB solution (backup power, backup transmission paths etc.) than might be expected (though as Marr is outside BBC One peak time the resilience requirements are reduced AIUI) All it needs is a local (or resilient remote) presenter to remain available to the gallery. The question is more 'why not'?

The BBC guidelines do also stipulate that where an OB is a source into a studio show, the studio should be able to sustain in the case that the OB is lost. Whether an OB-based Marr falls into this ? Up for discussion.

I really like the graphics and music. I just wonder why they don't carry on the simulcast on BBC News and do it for the whole hour?

It's 45 minutes because they only have the budget for 45 minutes of coverage (four times a week). Remember, even if a programme is primarily panel-based (which Politics Live appears to be, for the most part at least), that still requires producers and researchers to decide on topics and help the presenter prepare their line of questioning, as well as production staff to prepare onscreen graphics etc. These changes were brought about because of the need to reduce the overall BBC politics programming budget – which mostly involved reducing the number of staff employed.

It doesn't matter if it's simulcast on the News Channel or not – they'd still need to find a bigger budget. And if it was simulcast on the News Channel, they would be expected at the very least to include regular news headlines and breaking news (see: Victoria Derbyshire). The News Channel's remit, also is not to provide a full hour of only politics.

MJ is usually two main presenters, and then three more (including Willie Geist) around the table. Additional guests appear as DTLs.

Really liking the new Politics Live set. Feels a lot more spacious, crisper and cleaner. I don't find the number of people around the desk particularly cramped.

Nice graphics package which feels clean and crisp too.

My only issue with the design is the tickering BBC politics live in the LED walls only really works for me on the wide. In the two-shots it is being shot off-axis and thus looks skewiff..

Think it looks great. Love the desk and the rest of the set, and the graphics are fine too - a little retro, but do their job and seem neat and are Reith.

Don’t think it looks crowded around the desk - my only complaint is it’s a wholly female panel. If it was wholly male there’d be massive complaints.

The only thing missing seems to be a double-headed duo awkwardly flirting!

They all have reusable cup, but also all have a glass of water too.

Makes the table look a touch too cluttered.

Unless my eyes are deceiving me, the scrolling Politics Live text seems to be some sort of projection. It was certainly glowing on Amber Rudd's chair earlier.
