I am not a viewer but is Giles Dilnot (former main anchor for a brief period of South East Today) still part of the team?

No he's not. They did show a montage of his pun-ridden VT's though.

It's easy to forget the Daily Politics (which was initial Tue-Thu so far from daily at all) was introduced to be less Westminster Village, and now it's being replaced with something fresh and new in a similar way to which they killed off Westminster Live. I don't think the current titles help - they're very quirky, go on forever and hardly draw you in as a casual viewer.

Was it confirmed if the new show will air on the news channel also?

The "politics live" logo/text that appeared at the end, is in BBC Reith Light

It wasn't mentioned. There were a few mentions through the programme about how it would look and sound different in September - to the point that when the promo VT said something along the lines of "You won't just be able to watch Politics Live..." I—for one awful moment—thought they were going to announce a 5Live simulcast. Thankfully, it was just a prelude to waffle about soshal meeja.

There was a good send off for the The Daily Politics today, including a brief look at the BBC floor at 4 Millbank and a very brief preview of the new programme. It's on iPlayer, of course.

Edit: Rory beat me to it! Smile

There was me hoping they would pan the camera all the way round the newsroom and we'd all finally get to see the area where the desk used to be situated in the newsroom.

If the budget for the new standalone Sunday Politics doesn't even stretch to printing some new mugs without the now defunct Daily Politics name on it, I don’t hold much hope for the quality of the programmes.

The quality should be exactly the same as the current regional inserts into Sunday Politics, produced by the regional news teams. I doubt they'll be live as most if not all are pre-recorded on Friday afternoons between the lunchtime and evening bulletins, unless a major political event happens.

Keith McDougall (sp) confirmed at the end of Today in Parliament that the programme is seemingly continuing to be broadcast, when the recess ends.

Was it ever in doubt that it wouldn't? There's no way they'd axe that from the schedules, not only is it one of those long running Radio 4 programmes that they touch with caution, but also because I suspect most of those who listen are the politicians themselves!
