No he's not. They did show a montage of his pun-ridden VT's though.
Was it confirmed if the new show will air on the news channel also?
It wasn't mentioned. There were a few mentions through the programme about how it would look and sound different in September - to the point that when the promo VT said something along the lines of "You won't just be able to watch Politics Live..." I—for one awful moment—thought they were going to announce a 5Live simulcast. Thankfully, it was just a prelude to waffle about soshal meeja.
If you never got a #bbcdp mug through guess the year, the moment has gone.

The remaining few mugs are needed for #bbcsp editions from Scot/Wal/NI/Eng newsrooms from September 16, which launch as standalone programmes from 10am.

Edit: Rory beat me to it!
There was me hoping they would pan the camera all the way round the newsroom and we'd all finally get to see the area where the desk used to be situated in the newsroom.

If the budget for the new standalone Sunday Politics doesn't even stretch to printing some new mugs without the now defunct Daily Politics name on it, I don’t hold much hope for the quality of the programmes.

The quality should be exactly the same as the current regional inserts into Sunday Politics, produced by the regional news teams. I doubt they'll be live as most if not all are pre-recorded on Friday afternoons between the lunchtime and evening bulletins, unless a major political event happens.
Was it ever in doubt that it wouldn't? There's no way they'd axe that from the schedules, not only is it one of those long running Radio 4 programmes that they touch with caution, but also because I suspect most of those who listen are the politicians themselves!
