I have to say, sky seem to be pulling out all the stops here, with the interactive map, and Martin Stanfords back to basic paper newswall

I'm not sure that the "back to basic paper newswall" quite means that Sky have "pulled out all the stops"!

Look East have another special edition tonight, looks like they're pulling out all the stops so to speak...

...at least we didn't have to re-hear it again as there was no national news summary.

I know we've discussed here before our hatred for the need of broadcaster to brand disasters (i.e. 9/11, 7/7) - and it's evident again with this story.

P.S. Going slightly off topic and maybe missing the point, but the News of the World putting up a £250,000 reward is pretty hypercritical considering the disgust they have for prostitutes everytime a celeb is caught visiting one!

Missing the point indeed! Surely there's a world of difference between snapping a celebrity visiting a prosititute and somebody killing five of them? Your logic would suggest that a disgust for prostitutes should lead to the discouragement in catching someone who murders them. Does disagreeing with someone's lifetsyle mean you condone their murder?

I think we need to get back on topic... Rolling Eyes

Would the News of the World not offering a reward discourage anyone - I think not. The reward may help - boost sales figures at least!

(God, I am cynical!)

Probably for the best!

The building Look East were using is Endeavour House (I think) which is the Sussolk County Council offices and is very close to Ipswich's red light district. It's good to see they have reacted quickly to this.

i've found the coverage of this torturous to say the least, huw edwards at five on news 24 was terrible - nothing new to report, re-running the same old packages, what's the point? a quick summary and lets move on until some more news, and perhaps a more in depth summary on the six?

in many ways, it reminds me of the early days of the soham murders... sky were pretty much doing 24/7 coverage, reporting the same things, the same packages, the same interviews etc.

Was the BBC One o'clock News anchored on location as well - and if so, by whom?

Also, as George is there was his BBC World bulletin also on location?

The One o'clock news was singal anchored by Kate Silverton in the studio, with reporter Rajesh Mirchandani at Ipswich.

Not sure I follow... surely people aren't going to see that and think, "wow, they're offering a reward, I'm gonna buy that newspaper from now on."

Honestly, all this anchoring on location... just how much *does* it add to the news when they do this? It always seems a bit unneccesary to me.
