If I recall correctly, Malcolm Wilson and Sheena McDonald presented from that mainly white set with dashes of blue lighting. It was also from this set that Shereen made her anchoring debut, if I'm not mistaken. It was a very simple set with an angled desk. Nothing too fancy.

The same general set was updated to take on a sky/pastel blue look which, I believe, was at the same juncture as Viv Lumsden joining the channel. The blue look may just have been introduced prior to Viv joining.

It was essentially the same as the white set, but with a textures blue colour added.

Then........if I am not mistaken, the self same set appeared briefly in a slightly red/salmon pink rendition, as opposed to the blue and, by this time, was shared briefly with Scotsport, whilst an entirely new set was being constructed for Scotland Today. In fact, the salmon pink set may well have been Scotsports set, with Scotland Today just borrowing it briefly until theirs was ready.

When it was, an entirely new look was introduced, I guess in 1990/91, and along came the long, blue sweeping desk with blue backdrop and the illuminated thistle as the "leg" for the desk!

Or maybe I'm just mega confused????? But I recall the sharing of Scotsport and Scotland Today for a while.

Quoting myself above, but the set I was thinking of was the same one that you've posted above with Shereen and Viv at the desk. Salmon pinkish.

Oh is that the look that matched the titles listed here for 1987 and Mike Gower?

TVARK is wrong, Those titles were in use in 1989: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nDGclMFc4I&feature=player_detailpage#t=300

or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-JNin9DA-4

either way the look only lasted a year it seem unless it started in September 1988? I doubt it,

Thanks I only moved to Scotland Today land in 1989 myself - good to have a spot of nostalgia every now and then Smile

Both 1989 Scotland Today and North Tonight Titles from 1989 are missing, which is strange.

Oh I do seem to recall this all being debated a while ago and do not think there was any agreement on all this - hey ho. No doubt they may crop up at some point? I also cannot see any of the late 80s titles for Reporting Scotland in any of these sites - this would be before Viv defected.

Ah you mean Alan Douglas - yes, he was a great presenter IMO and none of the men at the BBC are anything close to him. David Henderson is rather wooden IMO and Glen Campbell does not have the charisma and authority of Mr Douglas. Viv was also a gem and I do miss her as well.

Anyway this is about STV - whatever is in the pipeline I do hope they get rid of these dreadful and tasteless US celebrity style opening titles!! The content of STV News at the moment is not too bad but I think they may beef up things in light of next year's indy referendum. I wonder who will join Bernard for all this (Juliet has now left) - perhaps Claire Stewart or Rona Dougall?

I still wonder why Viv left Scotland today, but kept on doing the home show with Alan. Mind you I have never seen that Friday edition when viv come back for Scotland Today 30th birthday.

I kinda dislike those titles aswell, but my real bug is the Edinburgh Desk. Content overhaul I think is still of a high standard, I dont think it needs to be beefed up. I can see John and Andrea having another Hour long edition on Friday 19 September.

I missed the 30th birthday programme myself - shame this was also not captured somewhere on the web.
Have to agree with the desk but I am not too sure that STV News is at the top of its game though with how it handles elections and politics but I agree that Andrea and John are more than capable.

My reference to Juliet and Bernard was mainly in relation to the STV Election Night (or in this case referendum night) coverage and not the flagship news programme(s). Heres hoping that Bernard will be prominent though and I hope he could continue to chair the debates as well.

If any revamp is due then perhaps this referendum could bring about a beefed up approach though in presentation terms (not necessarily journalism but no harm in looking at this?). I would also hope there are no Anchorman style titles with Wee Eck and co in the lead up to any debates (more likely fight night titles though) - if so I will turn be channel flicking.

There will be no Referendum night, that is a sure bet, I could see STV opting out around 3pm, for when there is a good chance of a result.

Reason being it will have to take place on Firday morning is islands etc there don't do anything until mornings.

If any mainland results are declared overnight then surely STV would be live overnight, even if the final result isn't known until the Friday?
