So recently I've been thinking about the fact that next year, STV will have been using the current look in the central regions for 3 years, which is STV's timescale for an update. Scotland Today (2006-2009) STV News (2009-2011) and their current look (2011-2014) All equal 3 years. So are we looking at an update? What do you think?
If so, I have some ideas. First off, I don't want them to get rid of the set, it's a nice set but could do with a few tweeks. For example, replace the awful white plywood with some nice white frosted glass lit from behind. Replace the light boxes with TV screens so they can feature moving images of the Glasgow skyline and also of STV's building.
Now, the graphics. The titles just need a slight change in colour, I think the summer titles should be a slightly deeper blue. Updated images of the presenters are key. Also have a video of Raman and not just a picture. Also the images in the background on the glasgow summer titles should be updated with the Hydro Arena and Finneston Crane for John, George Square for Raman and the Science Centre for Sean. The Glasgow winter titles should also have their images updated with the Hydro Arena for John, Squinty Bridge for Raman and Buchanan street for Sean. The east titles for both winter and summer just need to feature a deeper blue and feature new shots of the presenters.
As for the astons, I think they need to be completely overhauled. They should feature the STV News logo. I liked the Scotland Today astons from 2006. Something similar would be nice.
And finally the end graphics. They should keep the lovey Maggie Lavender telling us to download the STV Player App but the background graphics could be replaced with an image of Glasgow or Edinburgh, similar to the opening bumper. The end titles will still keep to the lower third but the shot ontop of them should me a moving shot of the studio similar to the ITV News.
What would you do?
