The stv news studios aren't the best especially the Edinburgh one , very dark looking , the only stv news I watch are in the mornings during the daybreak opt outs.

Although that studio looks absolutely terrible. I don't understand why they use these ugly consumer TV's with a slim bezel and a crap mirror finish applied to the stand, I'd happily have a flatpanel with a minimal bezel fitted into the gap in the set wall rather than that!

STV seem to keep to the traditional news style; desk, anchor, screen, sports, weather. Nothing else, no walking about with an iPad or swinging jib shots. Although I really do like the shot that zooms in quite quickly on John and zooms out at the same speed, suits the speed of the music. Hopefully the next revamp brings some smoother graphics!

Well I don't think you will have to wait long! When STV moved to their new home at Pacific Quay they revamped 'Scotland today' which lasted for three years until it was revamped again undergoing not only a face lift but a name change in March 2009 to 'STV News at Six' then after two years that look was scraped for the look we have at the moment! If you work that out, it means they seem to always refresh the news every 2-3 years, so either we could be looking at a new look at the end of the year or quite possibly the start of 2014.

The current set resemblles the old NWT set but more tidy and smaller, not a good look

Does anyone remember when STV News last made an effort at the end of the news? I mean when the show the credits, it's always camera 5 (the high camera) or the squinty bridge! Sometimes they show the SECC but I remember when the shots WEREN'T static! My favourite shot was when the camera starts facing the Clyde and tilts upwards to reveal STV HQ but they don't do that anymore! Even a moving shot in the studio would do me!

They used to (don't know how often though?) have the type of credits on the ITV News except each 'credit was horizontal and John talked about the website while those credits were rolling, before saying goodnight and the camera pulling back quite fast and fading to an endboard. Although no they fade to a looping card and the STV Announcer talking about the website and then fading to an endboard.

From 2007 onwards in Central anyway it's been, the promo for either stv.tv or recently the mobile apps then the credits.

North from 2007 up until the revamp used to be the other way about, it was the credits, the the promo. But since the revamp it's now following the Central route...

I thought there was a revamp between the black, white and red look of 1989 and the IMO best version between 1993 and 1996?

I remember they had the film reel titles with the studio desk having a thistle at each end was that 1991 to 1993?

So I think that it's safe to say that we could be looking at a Revamp early next year?

Usually every 3 years give or take for a refresh/revamp, 623 can maybe give us an timeline, as we used to discuss this now and again on the old STV Forum. If it's not 2013 it might possibly be the start of 2014.
