I was about to post by saying I was well impressed all 3 bulletins at the start of last nights 6pm show linked up to Debi Edward at the same time at Ibrox...

However North's programme cut out of the pre-record vt before it had finished and Edinburgh should have cut back to the studio after the VT instead seen John Mckay ask a question and Debi mention the sport with Raman later!!

I am asking myself why Rangers FC financial situation would be the lead story in the North anyway? More penny pinching getting all 3 programmes to link up the live OB? I get so angry watching what they are doing to us in the North!

Can you not just accept that it's never going to return to the way it was? Or are you stuck in the 1980s and 1990s?

I think it's a valid story for all the bulletins to lead with given the impact it could have on SPL clubs across the country.

Haven't read this thread in a while, so apologies for digging up last week's posts.

I think it's a bit of a mistake for the North to have such an Aberdeen City focused opening title and studio background. Edinburgh and Glasgow can get away with it as the major urban centres within their regions, but it's a bit of a different kettle of fish when you're covering an area from Shetland right down to Perth and Fort William.

I'm sure there are plenty of people in Inverness who wouldn't see the relevancy of Aberdeen's skyline to them. Mind you, same could be said about Glasgow and BBC Scotland.

Maybe there's enough hills in the STV idents to keep the rural viewers happy...

But also Perth can receive STV Central along with other parts of Perthshire due to the transmitters being blocked or the signals being to weak....

Well, in the old days news for Perth would have been covered by Grampian, and it's still deemed to be in the STV North region. Anyway, that wasn't really the point of my post.

Nothing at all to do with being stuck in any decade mate! It has to do with the NORTH leading with a story that clearly should not be lead as it is relavant to a GLASGOW football club! If it were Aberdeen that had gone bust would the West lead with that story.....hmmm...think not!

Yes. Yes they would.

Any SPL club going into administration would certainly be the lead story in any Scottish region.

........and for three nights in a row now it's dominated Scotland Tonight.....time to rename the programme Glasgow Tonight!

Two separate issues here.

It makes complete sense for Rangers to get such earthquake coverage on national Scotland Tonight, both in terms of news agenda and commercial sense. Commercially it's a no brainer, the vast majority of people in Scotland have an interest in Rangers (whether it be supporting them or hating them), and the most populated area (Glasgow and the west) is the only one that is so obsessed it can sustain three football phone ins on the radio at drivetime.

In terms of news agenda, it already is a massive deal. Rangers are a huge business, the taxman fighting to get money, doubts over Whyte's regime, staff possibly losing their jobs, the implications for Scotland's most popular national sport. In Scottish terms it's even more significant than the likes of Manchester United going into administration in England, simply because of the disproportionate size of the two Old Firm clubs.

And I say all this as someone who hates both halves of the Old Firm, and used to complain about the constant coverage of the sides. It makes sense.

What I don't get is STV North leading with it. They're in a difficult position because there is no Scottish national news as such on STV, so any stories with wide implications have to be covered. But I don't agree it should have been covered in the same way as it was in the central belt. There are different considerations at play here, not least the fact that everyone in Aberdeen bloody hates Rangers. Not an easy one. I have some sympathy, especially as the story was developing at breakneck speed on the day it all came out, so perhaps they felt it would be cleaner, for the sake of one day, to network the coverage.
