We are over the half way mark of the Glasgow/Edinburgh spilt, 10 weeks left?) I have to say Im still enjoying the improved STV news, Juliet Dunlop,is first class. but im still miffed about those titles.
Overall im happy with the pilot, and I hope it may continue. Its seems there is some questions hanging about, and some new one just appeared:
* Are STV planning to kept this going once the testing is over? or will John return to provide full central belt service and proper analysis take place before any conclusion is done?
* If its kept will we see any minor changes take place? I doubt any of us could suggest any changes needed: I do have have three:
* Titles
* Rather bland set which could be improved a bit
* Ad break pic, (does it always have to be Edinburgh? Whats wrong with Kirkcaldy? or river forth
Theses are all cosmetic, I dont have any real grumble about the news content.
* Will North tonight, get this new look in November/December?
* If stv does get Border tv, I take it Scottish border would get Edinburgh news while Dumfries and Galloway would get Glasgow news? this could also make it more worthwhile for STV to keep this set up going and stv to have 3 news programmes.

Only thing that could be improved with the titles is that, say if John or Juliet is off, replace with whoever is presenting, ie Rachel in the West or Laura Goodwin in the East. Titles would be fine with me then.
Edinburgh studio could be a wee bit bigger and get that desk replaced.

I think that if STV get the Scottish part of Border's area (and it's a big if in my opinion, I've lost count of the number of times this has been mooted over the years only for the status quo to remain each time) they would introduce an STV News South covering the Scottish Borders and Dumfries & Galloway areas, mirroring the area covered by the former Border Scotland opt-out.
Because of all the activity in glasgow last night, the west got Juliet for the late news from edinburgh. That's a first I think!
I thought it was a fault. As they used the 'Edinburgh titles' not the weekend standard ones (which are used for pan) clearly it was a Pan-reg for that Friday night with the appeal stuff.
One thing I have noticed. STV West has Falkirk wheel in it's ident leading up to the 6pm news etc, and family I know there get John McKay however on the East version the titles have Falkirk written in them... strange as to what sub-region they should be in.

Technically Falkirk's in the STV East area. However the oil refinery at nearby Grangemouth lies in the path of the signal from Craigkelly, so many folk there have their aerials facing Black Hill and thus get the West news with John Mackay. Grangemouth has its own relay transmitter, which is a relay of Craigkelly.
If the STV news service from Edinburgh is retained I hope that they revise the opening titles - the current ones are more suitable for a soap opera than for a news programme.
I love the opening with the presenter shots myself Steven. Love Caroline Henderson's shot on East. John McKay's shot on West titles looks commanding!! However needs 1 or 2 'back up' shots and other minor tweeks for the main cover presenters/sports presenters. Even one for Jo Farrow the spare weather presenter.
STV really should use a weather forecaster at the weekend, the newsreader reading the weather is very cheap.
Also i've noticed, now into 4th/5th week staying in Glasgow, that 2-3 stories you get on the 'West' Edition (big stories or even fluff stuff) finds it's self on the East edition and more often than not the North edition.

I hate that too, they wont bring a forecaster in at the weekend, I thought a cheaper way would be to get the voiceover for the north done by the newsreader in the central and the central newscaster to do the voiceover for the weather in the north.
