...then doing STV all next week while John's off..plus the weekend!!

Rachel is a busy woman. She did the ITV News nightshift last night/this morning as well. Cool

We will prob find we will see her lots over the summer then nothing until Christmas!

Like she said previous shes covering holidays and takes what ever shift she can get!

Looks like Rachel is goning to be there all week, seeing that she has her own continuity....

Think the announcer said....'Live from the heart Glasgow, with the news focus West, it's Rachel McTavish.'

Seeing that Rachel is getting her own continuity then, should STV modify the titles to represent who is actually presenting?

This is obviously the one flaw of the personality-led titles. In America, from where the look is taken, it's explained at the start of the programme by the stand-in presenter, whereas here the presenter just plods on regardless.

It's a relatively small point and I suspect most viewers don't notice, but it may be just worth saying: "I'm Rachel McTavish, John Mackay is away tonight". It would make it a bit more Anchorman, so I'm sure John would love it. Laughing

Now my specs are as rosy as anyone's, but really, didn't you find it awfully dour back then? I only grew to love it when Sheena, Haig and Roz turned up on sofas.

They titles looks like they been lifted straight out of an Atari or a Commodore 64 and slapped on the telly box!

Actually, John, those titles may be today consdired "dire", but at the time, they were quite "cutting edge". And the whole Roz Weather slot: don't you just love the campness of it all?

Those clips have made my day. Including the associated clip on the Youtube page of Shereen Nanjiani and Angus Simpson doing a deskbound edition of Scotland Today.

The John Toye clip: the rear frame of Haig Gordon in the background at the newsdesk: very inventive in the day. Loved that too. Remember that set and format very well but, for some bizarre reason, can't remember that theme tune all that well.

Now, did someone mention that Rachel McTavish is on this week.................................................................eons later......

Wasn't there some sort of silver/grey titles for North Tonight back in the 80s? I remember seeing a clip on an old blog, but can't anything on youtube.
