This is obviously the one flaw of the personality-led titles. In America, from where the look is taken, it's explained at the start of the programme by the stand-in presenter, whereas here the presenter just plods on regardless.
It's a relatively small point and I suspect most viewers don't notice, but it may be just worth saying: "I'm Rachel McTavish, John Mackay is away tonight". It would make it a bit more Anchorman, so I'm sure John would love it.

For all those interested Scotland Today From 1984 ( Dire tittles)
BRILLIANT. BRILLIANT. BRILLIANT. SHEER BLOODY BRILLIANT. Remember it well.
Now my specs are as rosy as anyone's, but really, didn't you find it awfully dour back then? I only grew to love it when Sheena, Haig and Roz turned up on sofas.
Actually, John, those titles may be today consdired "dire", but at the time, they were quite "cutting edge". And the whole Roz Weather slot: don't you just love the campness of it all?
Those clips have made my day. Including the associated clip on the Youtube page of Shereen Nanjiani and Angus Simpson doing a deskbound edition of Scotland Today.
The John Toye clip: the rear frame of Haig Gordon in the background at the newsdesk: very inventive in the day. Loved that too. Remember that set and format very well but, for some bizarre reason, can't remember that theme tune all that well.
Now, did someone mention that Rachel McTavish is on this week.................................................................eons later......

Wasn't there some sort of silver/grey titles for North Tonight back in the 80s? I remember seeing a clip on an old blog, but can't anything on youtube.
