Studio 1 is STV News, STV weather and STV News Tonight (each have their own fixed sets within the studio). Studio 2 was Setanta. I’m not sure if it’s possibly been mothballed or perhaps is being used for green screen ads, etc as it was only really a small green screen studio. The Hour came from Studio 1 (roughly where STV News Tonight is now). Live at Five comes from a former meeting room. It was first used as a ‘set’ a few years ago during one of the STV appeals but was still clearly more of a meeting room. It’s worked quite well, all things considered. Also helps with LIVE inserts for STV news from the balcony as it’s right outside that set.

The balcony is actually a floor above, and the meeting room it is attached to is the STV Boardroom.

It seems something is being planned? Also no changes will take place to the News until the end of the month Ie after the fringe.

We’re preparing for something new at STV.
Exactly what we’re doing will be unveiled soon enough and I can’t reveal anything of it yet, but we hope – and expect – that it’s going to be good.
We’ve been doing technical rehearsals in the evenings and that’s a familiar process.
A basic plan has been drawn up for the vision of how the programme might look.
But it’s when you’re in the studio that it begins to take shape.
First, we try what’s on paper, but that’s only ever a starting point.
Maybe there is a technical problem – a camera doesn’t have enough time to be repositioned for a shot or there is a sound issue.
Sometimes the shots just don’t look right – a wide shot doesn’t capture the set or a mid-shot doesn’t show enough of the graphics.
Maybe the titles don’t work. Often this might be a timing issue, the music is too long or too short.
It might be that it isn’t practical for the presenter to move from one position to another.
Perhaps the script doesn’t feel right, especially if you’re going for a less formal delivery.
Sometimes all the individual elements work – the titles, the camera, the sound, the lighting, the script, the graphics and the presenter - but they just don’t come together in the way that was envisaged.
It’s repetitive, as we try the same thing in different ways until we find what works best.
The rehearsals will be continuing over the next few weeks until we’re ready.

Then we’ll be going live with it.
I’ll keep you posted.
See you at 6.

Some more hints about the changes to come, in the latest MacKay Mail. My guess is that we're going to get a new double-headed STV News at Six hosted by John and Halla.

STV is launching a new-look, new-format STV News at Six, co-anchored from Edinburgh by Kelly-Ann Woodland and Glasgow by John MacKay.
From Monday 10 September, broadcasting live from Edinburgh and Glasgow, Kelly-Ann and John will share links in a dual-presented section of STV News at Six, as well as seamlessly anchoring separate sections comprising local stories, features, bulletins and sport. They will then combine for a live interaction with STV weatherman Sean Batty, who will introduce forecasts for both east and west. Sports content will continue to be split, with presenters Paul Barnes in Edinburgh and Raman Bhardwaj in Glasgow.
Viewers across STV North will continue to enjoy STV News at Six broadcast from Aberdeen, with a bulletin for the Dundee and Tayside area.
