Colin MacKay, currently Political Editor at Bauer Radio, is joining STV as Holyrood Editor. Great news to hear and well done to STV for a great signing.

Bauer radio has a political editor?
It should be pointed out, Colin MacKay, is Bauer radio SCOTTISH Political Editor. I don't believe the English stations have a Political Editor
I believe that Colin started out as the political reporter either the Radio Forth or Clyde newsroom a long time ago, and survived as part of the news team throughout the various acquisitions and mergers. These initially brought about the much expanded Scottish Radio Holdings (SRH), the sale to EMAP then the takeover by Bauer.
Last time I was there, Bauer even had allocated office space in the 'media tower' building at the Scottish Parliament.

That's correct. Colin's first Political Editor role was with SRH. Emap and Bauer both decided to keep him, mainly due to the fact that he was a great asset and was used pretty much every day. He also regularly took part in the Talk-in phone-in show on the AM network in Scotland. Re. the desk-space at the Scottish Parliament, both Bauer and Global Radio have this. Global has a self-op studio which contains simple instructions for MSPs to basically go in and do a 'down-the-line' interview with the journalists at Global's studios in Glasgow. Although more and more politicians now have ISDN lines at home, such is the demand for 24/7 reaction to news.

Lucy Whyte covering for John tonight. Can't help thinking she evolved from chickens. She cannot say one word without bobbing her head! It's actually laughable.
STV's live coverage is anchored by Political Correspondent Bernard Ponsonby. He will be joined in the studio by University of Glasgow law Professor James Chalmers, writer and broadcaster Lesley Riddoch, and the Liberal Democrat Councillor and former Holyrood minister Robert Brown.

There seems to be a new newsreader for this evening bulletin, never seen him before.
