Indeed, very stars and stripes!!

Well if we leave the United Kingdom we can be the next state of the USA. Sadly, I doubt Obama's Uk visit means they are special titles.

Bet poor John Mackay aint that easy with these titles...Scottish cheddar at it's best!!!

Has anyone got a video of either East or West editions?

What teething problems did the East experience?

Let me know what you think of the new set. Look out for the titles. Very Anchorman.

And I was joking too. Shame STV News have to spoil their otherwise excellent news programmes with this low-rent attempt at American news.

Have to admit the set is dire and I am still laughing at the cheesie opening.......stv does Fox news!!!

I realise everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I'm finding your criticism a little rich to be honest. Between this and what you said about Family Guy I realise the standards you set for others are greater than those you set for yourself.

I'm sorry to sound so harsh, but I'd rather say it than let the thought fester.

Showing the presenters (or "anchors" if we *must*) is a little American, but I can't tell you what I was imagining after some of the posts at lunchtime.

Establishing shots of the area, place names flying past, glassy effects and transitions - all EXACTLY what you see from other broadcasters all over the world. The set is made of flats and screens with an illuminated desk. ALSO EXACTLY what you see elsewhere.

And how do the Scots receive this new service? By being door, scathing and hyper-critical - and in some cases they do all of the above and complain that they don't get their own version.

I mean, good grief!

Have your opinions. I think its great.

I quite like the set - sure, lighting would make it look a whole lot better - but it's nice enough. The titles aren't dreadful. Indeed, the headlines are my greatest cause for concern ('Ta Ta Tynecastle') but even that isn't too bad. I mean, really, it all looks quite nice! Smile

If you look at what I've said, its only really the white panels on the set and the cheesy use of the presenters that get me. Everything else I like, but I don't see how the set is EXACTLY like what you see elsewhere. When compared with most other news sets from small countries, such as Norway or Denmark, the STV News sets look vastly inferior. Purely because they are so basic. No-one is saying they should have some flash game-show style set, but it can't have been beyond the STV set designers to manage something other than visible joins and office type frames to go in between the screens.

Apart from the anchors I do like the titles, the graphics are also very good and the programme itself is not too shabby. Just sort out those sets!

I still think Family guy has gone well beyond what there original conspect was for that show , somewhere around S6 ( just after South park episode "Cartoon Wars" ) it morphed into something else, maybe it taken a more broader role and become more like normal sitcom, and started taking out some of the more classic points from the show, but I liked FG for what it was Pre 2006. It has become very clear there been a mark change in that show.

Lets move on to STV news:

Titles:

I just do not like: that lets show off the "anchors" team on the title is it a little American, I just do not like it. I know very well why there done this, there look across the pound the CITY NETWORKS news programmes, and decide to go with it. This is what the NEW stv news is, its two City news programmes.

Have I complained about the content or how the news was delivery? No I commented on the set and titles,

I have no complaints as of yet Wink Laughing about these issues

SET

Compare the West set with the East set and you can clear see the difference, it just looks basic, it like oh well its just a pilot why bother.

u]Ta Ta Tynecastle[/u]
I Like that bit, it give it a bit of fun, nothing more can be said.

I agree it was fun - and admittedly it wasn't a serious story (it's not like they said 'top of the morning, Barack' or something) - but it just felt a little incongruous to me.

Now if only we can have STV North news renamed 'North Tonight' we can be an independent (of sorts) show again.

I do like elements of the new look.....titles (without the cheesy mug shots) are great and graphics and theme update good too.

Set is dire......I am surprised they never gave Edinburgh Aberdeens desk.......Edinburghs is different from the other two!!

I like titles in that they have more to them than the last version but the presenter shots might take a bit of getting used to. Thankfully the content remained of a good standard which was my main concern. So far so good, anyway.

One thing that I'm genuinely confused by is STV's online strategy. I would visit their website(s) more often if I didn't end up tangled up in links and mystifyed as to how to find what I'm looking for. The STV East news was promoting stv.tv/edinburgh which takes you to STV Local Edinburgh which is a mix of community content and some stories duplicated from stv.tv/news, but getting to the main STV website takes a bit of luck and then you find similar content packaged differently in a different layout at the STV news site on stv.tv/news. This was the site they were promoting in the West during the news at Six.

This "main site" is again separate from the STV Player (http://player.stv.tv), which - once you've clicked away on to - is very difficult to click back on to the stv.tv main site. I usually end up typing the URL back in my browser.

Then there's STV Player on YouTube, and I'm completely dumbfounded as to where the news I want to read is and where I can watch it (and which is the easiest/best - if either - place to watch it).
