That is absolutely nonsense, why would STV who are clearly committed to providing the 3 main bulletins plus the Dundee opt, want to scrap it for one main programme?

Also if STV went to just one or two main bulletins, there would be less to differentiate themselves from the BBC. From an outside perspective it seems like Scotland has got two complimentary news services - fully national from the BBC and regionalised news from STV/ITV Border+a national show across STV regions late evening (Scotland Tonight)

I don't see what benefit there would be to viewers if STV became less regionalised. Scotland Tonight enables them to offer a national perspective when required

And also the ratings for Scotland Tonight have shot through the roof recently which can only be a good thing for STV as well...

A national perspective that leans heavy towords the central belt

Change the record, Barney! Scotland Tonight covers a wide range of subjects - politics obviously being one of them. Believe it or not, the Scottish Parliament is based in Edinburgh - which just so happens to be in the Central Belt!

I can't fathom out why you are so hostile towards STV. You say there is a lot of Central Belt bias - can you give us examples?

When the weekend bulletins came from Aberdeen a couple of weeks ago, most stories where from the North - but that was because those were the main stories across Scotland - I see no bias there, it's just the way the running order went.

Poor Liz Monaghan's live link getting hijacked by some muppet ranting on about Scottish independence...

And how many weekends in the year does the weeknd bulletin come from Aberdeen? I understand that politics tends to be central belt heavy but watch the weeknd editions on both BBC and STV and tell me whats fair about the latter? You ask for examples....watch and you will see!! Why do they even bother?

If you're that irate about it, then why bother watching it?

Because its supposed to be my local channel.....if its pan regional at the weekend it should come North of Stirling for stories. I deserve the right to local news as do you!! I also never said I was "irate" - disappointed yes.

After all this time you seem to be the only person banging on about it. I don't see other viewers who are in the North region moaning on about it as much as you do.

If it was that much of a concern to North viewers there would have out an out roar when it first changed to STV News...

I think you will find there was....just STV ignored it....but hey we are used to it up here. It dissapoints me that you can not see how selfish it is....just go and look at the weekend content of the buletins last week.....Your honestly telling me NOTHING happened in the North??????

To me, the opening of this is not that big a failure, it sounds sort of fitting. If the start of the script was "Tonight, first with the nation's news..." then it would be even more fitting.
