Looking over the 3 regions, I wonder why North are the only ones to use what appears to be revamped title music...

Probably because East and West realise how crap and whiny it sounds.

Titles are so clunky. A good idea, but in execution it's not really worked. The triangles float around in a very unconvincing manner, hanging longer than they should and animating uncomfortably. While I can appreciate the retro Tron vibe from the set, I agree that it'll date pretty terribly in coming years.

I don't think comparing STV News to ITV News is very fair. ITV News is a national programme, whereas STV News is a regional programme. The set works fine for a regional programme. Plus, I don't like the national set anyway. I do think however that the set is layed out similar to the regional news. You have the large screen behind the presenter, another screen to the right of the presenter and also a curved wall. I think we can all agree that the set is a HUGE improvement from what they've had in the past. I don't agree with everyone who says that there's too much blue, I think it looks nice on screen. Perhaps they should have made the metal less shiny, as it's quite distracting. I love the the fact they kept the music. The titles are nice, far better from the cheesy ones we had before. All in all, I think that STV have got it right.

There is far too much blue, they need to replace the desk to a grey colour, to break up the blue, or a newsroom background of some sort. There is far too much blue imo.

Way too much blue, it's very cold looking. Would look nicer with some warmer purples.

I should probably reserve judgment until I’ve seen an entire bulletin, but I’m not that impressed by the clips and screenshots that have been posted so far. As others have already said, I think there is far too much blue and metal used in the set design. The metal feels very cold while the blue is bordering on neon, which seems very 1980s to me.

As for comparisons with ITV News, I agree there is a difference between network and regional news. But given this Autumn’s independence referendum and the fact BBC News distinguishes between the Nations and Regions, I think STV could easily have set the bar a little higher, and tried to create a much more serious, heavyweight Scottish news brand – almost as a counterweight to BBC and ITV News. Unfortunately, I don’t think the new look does that. The programmes don’t have that ‘big bulletin’ feel about them, and I think that’s a missed opportunity.

IMO, if STV can't implement the 'Scottish Six' idea, the six should be across North and Central as a national programme, with opts for West, East and North (and DundeE), and other bulletins as the opts. Would be more professional and prepare STV for independence.

Good lord no, why would it prepare STV for Independence? Are you aware of something the rest of us aren't? STV has to remain impartial as a broadcaster hence why they pulled out of the CBI.

A national programme wouldn't work, I mean what what the North and East presenters do for a start if this was ever to happen?

Madness if ever I heard it...

They will still be impartial. It sets them up, if we go independent, to have a main Scottish based nightly news programme, with local news following it.

The presenters can do the opts and other news bulletins/updates.

That is absolutely nonsense, why would STV who are clearly committed to providing the 3 main bulletins plus the Dundee opt, want to scrap it for one main programme?
