Looking back at the reaction, the only positive comments have come from people in the STV region and Mouseboy. It does seem there's quite a lot of bias here, which has probably come about because people in this thread regularly watch and enjoy STV News, whereas other threads here are frequented far more by people who don't usually watch the programme involved.

The two are meant to be completely different and IMO both look fine - is STV News better or does STV News need to be better than ITV News - does it matter?? They are hardly competing with each other Confused

For what it is worth, I like the new set more than the previous one. I've never liked the current STV logo nor have I liked the Americanised presenter pics in the titles so nothing is worse. It is certainly a decent look for 2014 though.

Comparing presentation between providers isn't exactly a radical idea for a television presentation discussion forum, is it? It would be like saying it's invalid to compare the presentation of Tyne Tees and Central in a particular year.

Personally, I think comparing the look of STV and BBC Scotland is relevant as I am north of the border. I don't care or aspire to what ITV has...STV holds its own compared to ITV News yet both are credible for 2014. I think the Tyne Tees set is not so great but who cares as it has no impact on my viewing habits.

The content of the localised news programmes is another matter though and IMO STV is well ahead. I am sure others disagree and perhaps we are bias with our own services.

If you prefer ITV and STV viewers prefer STV then we are all happy and that is the main thing Smile

Well I disagree with you on the set ageing, but we're all entitled to our own opinion.

Regarding your last statement, the STV news set is not being shown around the entire nation of the UK, it's the news set for the west of Scotland, so it's not a fair comparison.

I meant the nation of Scotland.

It does not cover the nation of Scotland either - areas of Southern Scotland don't get STV.

Forgot about that bit... Embarassed Never mind. The only way I was comparing the two anyway was in response to Gary McEwan's post, rather than thinking that STV should be able to match ITV, which was not the case.
I think its the best set STV have ever had, and it puts ITV and UTV to shame actually. Its bright, modern, crisp and vibrant.

No worries Smile and I disagree with Gary that it puts ITV and UTV to shame...these are by no means dreadful. However, this new look STV News is nicer than the previous one IMO.

Isn't Gary a Rangers fan? That would explain why he prefers the blue set over a green and white one.

I agree that it is miles better than what it succeeded.

Hahaha that's quite laughable, yes I might be a Rangers fan, but that has no bearing on this really...
