The last set was very clinical looking. The STV logo didn't meet at the 'v' on the news desk as well, which I always noticed. This set is a massive improvement to all of the old sets.

The news set is horrible, I don't understand comments to the contrary to be frank. The blue is everywhere, which wouldn't be such a bad thing if it wasn't so harsh - it's far too vivid, and unrelentless. The graphics are quite nice, however.

I think its the best set STV have ever had, and it puts ITV and UTV to shame actually. Its bright, modern, crisp and vibrant.

By ITV, do you mean the national set or the generic regional sets?

Both in fact...

Really?

The points that bilky asko raise are very much apparent. It's a set that you can tell will age within no time and it holds next to no authority whatsoever.

Whereas the ITV national set is grand and does hold and reflect authority of a respected and major broadcaster.

How it's even comparable to the STV set is beyond me.

The STV set reminds me of a small US local station, not a set seen by an entire nation in the UK. It is a vast improvement, although in no way is it even comparable, let alone greater than ITV's.

Well I disagree with you on the set ageing, but we're all entitled to our own opinion.

Regarding your last statement, the STV news set is not being shown around the entire nation of the UK, it's the news set for the west of Scotland, so it's not a fair comparison.

Well the new set is certainly an improvement over that the last thing they had up. It was frankly shocking that they used something that terrible. The new set is nicer, smally but nicer. But its cute for Scotland. Not comparing the ITV National and STV sets...I dont like the ITV News set...at all. I personally dont really like virtual sets and empty fake newsroom backdrops. To me they just look off somehow. But getting back to STV. They are some finishes issues that they didnt seem to anticipate. The metal bits should have been buffed down so as to not reflect as much light.

To me this is the only odd bit of the opening titles. The 2 in the back are smiling and the main presenter is scowling. Either they all smile or they all look serious. Its kind odd looking to me. An since they are going to show the presenters in the opener ala american local tv.....why not do the cheeky simultaneous head turn Razz Razz

THERES NO TRAFFIC!!!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhh Laughing Nice attempt at an enriched screen format. I think Toronto's CP24 does a good job for info at a glance. You might think its crazy but it works somehow (since 1998). If you visit Toronto the channel is literally on EVERYWHERE. Restaurants, shops, waiting rooms, transport terminals, corridors, lobbies...everywhere. Perfect if you are at one location for a brief moment.

Those headshots have been lifted straight out of the previous titles...

The only one that has changed is Edinburgh with the addition of Laura Miller...

It did indeed.

Still not overwhelmed with the new set - can't decide if it is good or not. Definitely makes the presenter look weird as though the lighting hasn't been sorted out.

Is the latest atmospheric pressure reading really worth displaying? I wouldn't know what to do with that information.
