On the 5.30 topic - wouldn't it make sense for STV to create a mini 5.30 sofa bit in the Aberdeen studios, in a way akin to the mocked-up mini newsrooms in Dundee and Edinburgh? This way they could still serve all areas very well & could include a larger variety of stories or guests, as they wouldn't have to ship everyone down to Glasgow? Theres gotta be times where folk worth interviewing will stop by Aberdeen - it wouldn't even have to be a live segment, but it could still be linked into the 5.30 show by way of a similar studio!

for all we know there could getting interviewed up in Aberdeen and dundee, or Oban and film comes back to glasgow

Oban is part of the STV Central region.

Any early ratings for the 5.30 show? Fearing the worst.

Also - is it available on the STV website to watch again? And if not, can someone on the STV forum request that...?

Yes, it's available here just on the right-hand side.

Found it thanks.

Well it's not anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. A lot better than lunchtime Scotland Today, which was an entertainment programme without the budget or celebrities.

The presenters were extremely nervy, somewhat understandably. Sofa chemistry was ok, I suppose it's better than Trev and his co-presenter if nothing else.

Kenny Ritchie was well handled. They were asking for trouble asking someone who never speaks more than four words in response to a question but just about got away with it. Taking him round new Edinburgh was a moment of genius.

They did always seem a lot more confident on the lighter stuff though, which I suspect will become the bread and butter of the programme.

Two questions remain for me and they're interlinked: a) how will it balance light and serious - because at times it doesn't seem to know what it is; and b) who is it actually aimed at? Unless they know that, it's not going to work.

I really want it to work though, although there's not a chance I'm ever going to be home in time to watch it.

Just one final thought though - some of the lighter stuff on this programme is what BBC Scotland fills its alleged news programme with. There's something badly wrong with our public service broadcaster if its supplying less daily current affairs output than its commercial rival, which has a budget of approximately 50p. Unless you speak Gaelic of course... Rolling Eyes

This is exactly the problem. I feared the worst when I saw the promos, which kept referring to "your show" with "what you want to see". Smacked of "we don't know what we're making".

It's trying to be a light news show but has no set segments or themes. So 'light' it has no structure - and nothing of interest for me. It might appeal to an older demographic perhaps, but still I can't work out who.

Also, I found the ticker annoying - like Newsround - very patronising short sentences. The "email us with your views" always irritates me, no matter what show. YOU come up with the ideas please!

...and finally, Sean's weather forecast is quite out of place. Is it needed? It just seems like they've got the weather forecast ready that they wish they could show if Scotland was one ITV region. Not that flashy, and we've all seen a fly through before. Old skool STV used those. How's it different from the one 25 mins later?

Sadly, not impressed. The theme's music's uninspired, the name's uninspired, and the same old uninspired Stephen Jardine presenting. He's way too smug, and a bit shouty at times. Seriously, I wish I could be more positive about this - think it will flop.

By the way, I'm not biased. I think STV News do well with limited resources and Scotland Today has excellent reporters. The 5.30 just ain't doing it for me from what I've seen on the website.
