I am not sure about Jane, but I am sure they'll be plenty to include in the final piece for Shereen..especially time Scotsport nearly could her in a Celtic footballer's home in the late eighties!!

Ooooooooooo! Laughing Nice one there! I canny believe I called him "Prince" John - how embarrassing Embarassed , anyway I've got a signed pic of him, so he must have been cooley flattered at that Wink Laughing

You know, darlings, I spent 4 years at drama school learning to lose my Scottish accent.

Could we keep the broad-Scots to a minimum so as to remain intelligible to the non-Scottish readers?

Good good.

You're still in credit for the rather brilliant, "Jackie (you canny shove yer granny aff a bus, because she's in possession of an travel entitlement card) Bird" line.

I hope you have written off for your signed photo by now.

Jackie (etc) Bird sent me a nice one once, with a post it note on the back:

http://www.gorillaenterprises.co.uk/upload/uploadFiles/Jackie-sig.jpg

She followed it up with an email saying it was the type of picture that "could scare horses".

Lovely, lovely lady.

Laughing I did that a few days ago, and I got a personal letter back from Jane, plus signed pics of her - John and Shereen. I'm well chuffed! Wink One thing bugs me however Confused , I wish I could have given her my email address tae, but I thought that might be overdoing it. Rolling Eyes so I didn't.

Gavin,

Jackie Bird's father (Ronnie McPherson) was the janitor at my High School when I was a "youngester". The resemblence is remarkable, although he was a big, tough man, yet much loved by all of us. He was affectionately known as "The Chief", and had more effect on unruly pupils than the teaching staff could ever have had!!

When it became known that his daughter was (then) working on Radio (long before her RS days on BBC TV), he was hounded to death for info and celeb gossip. Haha. Those were the days.

Back to Shereen Nanjiani, did any of you guys ever see the televised One Woman show that Dorothy Paul (forgive me, non Glasgow folks, you won't have a clue, but bear with me....) did several years back, and Shereen was in the audience?? Someone must have told Dorothy that Shereen Nanjiani had just walked into the theatre, so she (DP) quickly integrated that into the show, and invented a story about a lost li-lo, floating on the estuary of the Clyde.

Dorothy's "cleaner" character opened the show, and immitated a tv newsreader bringing us the story about the lost li-lo.

"Och, then this announcer came oan the telly. Och, you know that wan. That wan, Narinjee Sharinjee", at which point the audience erupted in laughter and applause, knowing full well she was mis-pronouncing Shereen's name). Camera's then found Shereen in the audience and the applause grew louder.

"I always thought she was an awfy nice wee lassie", Dorothy concluded. More applause!

Kinda sums up our feelings about Shereen, I guess.

(Gav - apologies for slipping into local parlance, my friend - I couldn't have narrated that story otherwise.)

Laughing One of my favourite lines.

Dorothy Paul is on at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh shortly, and I would love to catch the new show.

Thank you kind sir!! Laughing Laughing
However, the Big John I serve is my husband! Laughing
Jackie Bird is a nice woman, as I have met her. I am not her biggest fan journalism wise, but as a person she indeed is a lady!
I bet 'Oor Sharinjee' (Our Shereen) was a picture when DP was taking the mickey..she'd probably more red than after Jim White fondled her knees? Laughing Laughing

If there is anyone shocked at having the two boys (John & Stephen) on air, I reckon they (SMG) are trying out what it's gonnae by like after the jobs that are meant to go - go.

What do I think of that? It's pathetic. Sad Having Raman there only makes things worse, and I don't think he (Raman) has much of an SOH (Sense of homour) compared to Jane, who is very much more superior.

Spare a thought for poor John though, he's what you call "a man in mourning" - at the loss of three gorgeous girls. However if I had to choose between John & Stephen though - John would win outright. Smile He's cool, calm & chilled out, whereas Stephen has maybe got too used to the "political programme presenting scene" (ppp), and can be slightly arrogant.

Nae offence to you two (Stephen & Raman), if you are viewing this. Sad

I agree with your comments about John. He always seems quite relaxed and is funny at the end of the bulletin when talking to Shereen.

I agree it's a shame Jane and Shereen are leaving, but they won't want to be there forever.

That's true enough, unlike their ITN counterparts who have spent more than 30 or 40 years in the one place!

John was in the hot seat for the lunchtime bulletin, now I wonder if his on-screen other half (Shereen) will be with him tonight at 6pm? Confused Fingers crossed - Jane's got the sport! Wink

Antz? You could amend the description and add in the date that Jane's leaving - now that we have it - that's if u want. It's just a suggestion eh - dinnae have to. Cool by me either way. Very Happy
