Heather Simpson finally got a chance to front the programme tonight. I thought she done very well. She seemed very relaxed and comfortable.

It was such a refreshing change to have Kirstin Gove solo anchor North Tonight a few weeks ago. I wish this would happen more often, instead of Andrea Brymer dominating the main presenting role.
As I switched on to tonight’s edition, the sports preview was about GLASGOW Rangers, followed by a report from EDINBURGH, then another from GLASGOW, both with Scottish Television reporters. I then turned it off. What has happened to “we understand local matters”. It is high time Ofcom started to monitor Grampian’s news output, as it is clearly ONE news schedule for all of Scotland now. It is not surprising there have been complaints in the local press about the news programmes since the channel became STV.

I personally find Kirsten aloof and stuffy. She is a good journalist though; however, I think you need to remember the Kirsten Gove and Sarah Mack war. I do not think that either did themselves a favours in the early 2000s. Many say that if Kirsten was chocolate she would eat herself...but that is taking it a bit too far.
Andrea does not seem as hostile and is much more friendly in her presenting tone. Andrea also gets on well with the team and has decent banter with Tyrone and co. North Tonight can be as bland as watching paint dry, so it is good to have Andrea and Chris to inject some life into the programme.
I just hope you take some chill pill when North Tonight becomes a version of Scotland Today.
However, I agree with the Ibrox live report...not really relevant to the north.

I am glad Heather is doing well...she seems genuine!
I take it John is on his holidays then; he must have been busy following the Glasgow Airport attack. Is Raman still there or has he got the boot?

Yes she did do well, surprisingly so actually.
He may not be there as it is Glasgows public holiday today? Hence some of the dissapearance of some "big names"
:-(

I cannot see North Tonight the programme remaining though. I think there will be a Aberdeen and Dundee based Scotland Today production. stv would not be breaking any rules as long as they honoured their opt out services.

Please expand on the above comments, as I am unsure what you are implying.

Stephen is recovering from the past two weeks in rehab. Laughing

Laughing Heather really has looked so at ease presenting the bulletins, and to be honest I don't think she's ever had any trouble with newspresenting. Well, not that I can remember anyway apart from maybe when things have gone slightly pearshaped. As for Mike and the weather - correct me if I'm wrong but I think this week may have been his first time doing the weather. Confused

Another good programme tonight! What a treat, Heather 2 nights in a row!

Laughing

Wonder if she's enjoying someone else doing the weather!

ST really is much better than RS at the moment. I see Scotland Today had the hero from the airport on tonight with Heather as well. Don't think (correct me if I'm wrong!!!!) he's been on the other side yet.

I think I remember seeing him on RS a few weeks ago Greg.

Well it won’t be from September when a permanent ad break appears in the middle of the 6p.m. edition. This will be an ideal opportunity for viewers to channel hop.

I'm certain the hero has been on RS since the attack. Confused John - ST is on at 6pm, while RS is at 6.30pm.

Just out of interest....

My Sky TV is not working at the moment so I have stuck the old ariel cable into the telly in the mean time and for some bizarre reason I get the Glasgow opt out even although I live in Fountainbridge in Edinburgh (ie. 5 mins from Edinburgh city centre) Anyone else get the wrong opt out on terrestial?

I am aware of that fact. However, don’t forget that the day Home and Away started on Channel five, Scotland Today lost 200,000 viewers overnight, which is one reason why it is not as popular as Reporting Scotland .STV are trying to build their audience, and by having an ad break in the flagship show they won’t achieve their aim of overtaking the BBC.
