Grampian have axed the Saturday news review, and replaced it with a three minute entertainment segment contained within the regional news bulletin. It is presented by Grant Lauchlan from Scottish Television. Yesterday, the “news” bulletin contained only two stories, followed by five minutes of entertainment/music news and sponsored weather. This is the wrong place for this feature. So much for their news slogan, “we understand local matters”.

It's called Entertainment Now, and we here in the former Scottish region get that as well on a Saturday, but our news review is always on a Sunday at around 6.35pm.

agree with you on a few points - John and Heather defo together. I don't really think Louise works with anyone that well - not exactly a fresh face Laughing . Debbie is good at sport altho no Jane! Good at reading it but not sure she has Jane or Raman's knowledge. haven't seen the edinburgh ones so not sure about the pairing there - although wouldn't it be better for balance to have male/female? never seen ITV with 2 men or 2 women. Do you think they'll go back to 2 presenters?

As a presenter I don't think Debi is that great. Shes completely expressionless and that makes me feel shes just not interested in whats shes saying! I do however think shes a fairly decent reporter. I would love Scotland Today to go back to 2 presenters, but I doubt this would happen in the short term. Their new look isnt a year old and they would look pretty daft if they reverted back so soon!

I am surprised that they don't just use the view of the bridge for the backdrop .I know that RPS do but Scotland Today was at PQ first and should have adopted that look.

agree with you there - but maybe they felt it would place them in glasgow too much. They get criticised for that quite a bit.

also - in reply to other post from dantheman, Debi in the studio doing bulletins is pretty bad, as you say expressionless. One might say vacant. But I felt she was more comfortable doing sport.

Any more fall out from the gmtv stuff?

I would love North Tonight to once again have dual anchors. Then, the longest serving female presenter at Grampian, Kirstin Gove, would return to her rightful place.

any more cuts and we will see Stephen/ John/ Louise getting the chop! Mad

There will be no need for cuts at Grampian, as six of their newsroom staff have left in the last four months, including the Head of News.

They know that BBC Scotland will get much more viewers, so what's the point? They are opting out of the network at 9.25am though, with a special 'How Scotland Voted' programme.

No ITV News tonight at 6.30pm - full one hour bulletin (probably due to two major stories including the Angelika trial).

Looks like the SNP have snapped it.
