Here's what I reckon will probably happen to GMTV in a few years time:
All regional bulletins within GMTV, in any/all UK regions, will be scrapped completely.
If/when ITVplc ever get their mits on the remaining Shares in GMTV (the 25% (I think?) currently owned by Disney - ITVplc already own 75% of GMTV, I believe), then GMTV will of course become just "a programme on ITV1" (as "average viewers" have probably always though it, and TVam before it, already is/was), rather than technically being a seperate "channel/station" to ITV1, as currently.
If/when the above happens, I bet the 5:30am ITV News will be scrapped (probably replaced with nothing better than an extra 30-mins of ITV Nightscreen), and the 6:00-7:00 hour will be filled with an ITN-produced "ITV News" programme exactly like all the others (teal, theatre-of-news, "news at ten" theme tune, etc). Therefore, the "GMTV" brand won't appear until 7 am each weekday (and not at all at weekends). As it will be merely a programme , it will be called just "GMTV", as the "...Today" bit will be pointless, with nothing else (i.e. "GMTV Newshour") to distinguish it from anymore.
Lorraine Kelly's show may well become a stand-alone show too, then (rather than a strand within "GMTV"). In which case, GMTV may well actually end at about 8:30am*, with closing credits and an "ITV Productions" endcap. (*If Lorraine's scheduled start time is still 8:35am, to allow a commercial break).
