Border surely can't become part of STV as it's owned by ITV PLC. And unless STV a) have the money to pay for a takeover (unlikely); b) can convince ITV PLC to sell (even more unlikely), it's not going to change.

It would make more sense, but it won't happen.

SMG cant pay the electric never mind buy Border and I think they are better off staying part of itv.

It pains me to say this but I think I would rather have Grampian as part of itv plc.....at least the Grampian name would still remain on end caps etc..........I think it is shamefull that SMG have been allowed to get away with the murder of a fine local station!!

I can understand how much Grampian meant to you, Barney Rubble, but there really isn't much point of local stations any more, as the only differences is the news programmes, and a couple of local programmes here and there. It would be quite silly, especially if Scottish and Grampian went on, as their schedules where the exact same, apart from the news.
Once again I can understand that Grampian TV was a big part of Northern Scotland, but in the present day, we are now in the digital age, and have to look forward, not back (too much).

digital age? perhaps you could expend on why, in your view, the fact the transmission system uses 0s and 1s instead of analogue waves has an impact on whether or not local stations are viable.

if, perhaps, you had said multichannel age, then you may have a point.

Regional programming? My Thursday nights wouldn't be complete without Heart of the Country , or Nick Hancock and S-J Mee on Central Soccer Night .

I forgot to mention last night you lot Confused ,does anyone think that John just might have the biggest collection of blue ties in his wardrobe? Laughing It's just that everytime he's on Scotland Today, he's always wearing a blue tie of somesort, I'm not complaining like - I like his ties. Cool I know he didn't used to do that, in the previous set.

Lol Laura...well I would be very surprised if he wore many, if at all, green ties! Perhaps, he has a bigger clothes budget with Shereen and Sarah leaving?
As for all this about preserving local identity - well I think that battle has already been lost. I do think we should look to the future now and hope that our news programmes get better!!
IMO one thing is for sure, North Tonight and Scotland Today are far better than the ITV England and Wales news programmes and also UTV Live!

No Caroline Dempster was more strawberry blond and Nick looked more of a red head with those awful glasses he used to wear.

Also lets not forget Marion White who read the news before the East West thing was introduced. She was pushed to the side. It was always John and Marion on Scotland Today which i liked .

Lewis I always thought you were a young thing, but you remember more about the early 80s than I.

Oh well I stand corrected, but its quite fascinating to have my memory refreshed.

I still have my looks mate. Wink

Changing the subject slightly but i was surprised when i flicked on to Border Scotland on Hogmanay to find that they were getting the ITV 1 England programme and not the STV one. They don't seem to be bothering about the Scottish optout anymore.

It's (Scottish output) become a bit naff anyway, Lewis, since the demise of Andy Stewart, Thingymajig, Glen Michael, John Toye and the departure of Narinji.

Does anyone remember a programme many years ago called Callum's Ceildh?? Early to mid seventies on STV. Lots of tartan trotting around in Cowcaddens in the era of Garnet Way, Montford, Toye and, as mentioned above, Andy Stewart.

Ach, the memories.............(Chris, you'll remember it too, sure?)

Back to Scotland Today - I would love if anyone could post some caps of the set etc since it's relaunch last year. I still haven't managed to see what the whole thing looks like. (regardless of the regional opt-outs).

Thanks,
James

I think you will find that Callum's Ceildh was made in Aberdeen by GRAMPIAN TELEVISION!!??!!

Andy Stewart also made many shows for Grampian.

I laughed when the previous poster wondered why Border did not take stv's hogmanay show.......................did you see it................I wish stv had gone to the network too!!!!!!!!!
