Scotland Today rules ! Very Happy

SCOTLAND TODAY has massively improved since the relaunch, and even though I confess to STILL missing fab females that vanished from our screens beforehand - I think the team have done a fantastic job trying to cope with the much and ever increasing workload. Wink It's likely that we'll still see maybe one or two teething problems, but at least we can be rest assured that they will be rectified. The banter between John, Louise, Heather an co. has returned to way it was, before all the redundances occurred. I don't know about anyone else but John has also shown that there is life at Scotland Today after Shereen! Smile His leadership, charm, with and sense of humour prove it.

REPORTING SCOTLAND on the other hand is just the same as always. It tends to dull and boring after a while, they really should look at ST and find out how to really turn the heads of faithful viewing audience. The only good thing about watching RS is when David is on-air with Sally and I've forgotten who the other lassie is Embarassed (not Jackie, the other one) - oh what's her name again? Shocked

I have to say that I do prefer Scotland Today to Reporting Scotland. I've just got back from Scotland where I've been for about a week, and I thought Scotland Today had more journalistic style than its BBC counterpart. Scotland Today's graphics were also fantastic (wake up ITV, this is how regional news should look).

The annoying thing about ST being in widescreen, is that if you don't have a widescreen telly - you can't see the text in particular corner of the screen! Mad If any of the reporters use graphics to diplay information in their reports, some of the text is cut off.

Anyone else notice that? Confused

Does Reporting Scottish Executive Press Releases know that, there are more towns in the Grampian area than just Aberdeen? Laughing I don't know about anyone else, but has anyone noticed that RS seem to be doing a lot of reports in Aberdeen lately? Rolling Eyes

Sounds to me either they haven't put it in the 4:3 safe area or they are badly cropping.. Confused

It's been a few months now, and I have to say that the ST relaunch (and the NT relaunch) have both been sucessful. I agree with an earlier froumer that said "this is the way ITV regional news should be/should look". The use of bold colours and modern graphics really show up the somewhat simpleness of ITV plc.

The studios at PQ and Tullos are modern but also very traditional and flexible (e.g. Politics Now and Scotsport which is filmed in a soft area opposite the main desk in the ST studio IIRC).

I do wonder why STV Central lead with Abedeen based stories yet Aberdeen don't do the same with the central belt - unless its a Holyrood matter usually. I suppose "Scotladn Today" implies its "Scotland" but I don't really care about Aberdeen news. Hopefully something the opt service will solve (however seeing as the forth valley is covered by the west opt for some mysterious reason, I'm pretty sure we'll get a bulk of "overlap" stories)

Also my opinion on Reporting Scotland is that it's very bland, and ordinary. I like the formalness and I believe that people will always turn to the beeb for that due to it's long history and tradition. However, in terms of presentation, the coldness between Jackie and David is still evident and some of the 'new' blood like David Henderson and Jamie Mcivor are very ordinary and have no real style or presence IMO. Also with presenters presenting from the newsroom, etc it does look very messy. I very much doubt that anyone believes that NewsRoom is real. Only another few months 'til the full move to PQ though - lets hope the set is a bit better there, eh?

Well tomorrow is the big day for the split news service. It'll be interesting to see if the Edinburgh and Glasgow studios differ (and if the Edinburgh studio will be in 16:9).

Yeah and we can't wait to see the Dundee based news programme.........sorry roundup (only being sarcastic for those of you who know I live in Keith).
However, back to my point - if there is anyone in Forth Valley - please let me know what show you get.
Not long now folks!!!

Aye certainly will be. Fingers crossed for a good start - and not like the bad start the show had, when the gang moved into a digital studio, for the first time back in Cowcaddens and all hell let loose, almost leaving John and Shereen almost having to adlib most of the time. Rolling Eyes

I take it the new service kicks off from 6pm Ant eh? Confused
