STV has a newsgathering centre at the rather luxurious One George Street - one of Edinburgh's best addresses. It was, until now, just an office with a tiny studio for two-ways and a roof top balcony for special LIVES. However, the office has been expanded and kitted out with a large replica of the Glasgow/Aberdeen sets so the Edinburgh opt will actually come from Edinburgh. I'm not sure whether this will also be the case at Dundee, but it probably will be as they've been recruiting for Dundee based staff and have a semi-decent sized office there too. A senior journo also hinted to me that it's the pre-cursor for completely split programmes for all the regions.

Presumably these 'more local' Scotland Today's will still both be broadcast from Glasgow.

I don't think so. A while ago, I think it was Gavin Scott, said stv were fitting their Edinburgh newsroom for the new service. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please. Smile

Well remembered. It was a month or so ago I spoke with someone looking at equipment to kit out the space.

Wasn't aware that they were building a full size replica of the Glasgow set. That certainly would indicate the ability to do full split shows if nothing else.

I think we all know why Shereen left now!
I found it odd to hear that stv east would not cover Forth Valley? I also wonder why stv west and east get seperate bulletins while the split system for stv north means two split round ups within one news programme. Very confusing and messy.
Why can they not leave well alone!
Will we see a seperate bulletin for the old Highland, Grampian, Tayside, Central, Strathclyde, Fife and Lothian regions by 2008?
I have tried to look at the positive side of all this change at Grampian and Scottish, but it is fast becoming a farce!

Regions down south have done much the same, it's not exactly unique....

And while it was the end of an era to see Shereen leave isn't it time to stop talking about her and move on and talk about the current Scotland Today?!

I think you need to read the post before mine!! I was merely remarking on what BBC World had said.
As for what is happening about the future of stv news - well I count six sentences out of seven in my posting tackling this.
I aint no maths expert, but that to me means the bulk of what I was saying was about the FUTURE of news programming - not harping on about the good old days. Have a happy New Year!

Chris is right, it IS becoming confusing and messy! Shocked

Where it will really become confusing is, for folk like me who are in a town, which is right bang on line between the STV border and old Grampian Border. Rolling Eyes I'm in Glenrothes, and in some parts of this town you get Grampian, others would recieve STV. Being in Fife, we should get STV East, but who knows what we'll get? Confused

Hi Laura, so you'd be eligible for the Dundee opt and the Edinburgh based bulletin? I always wondering why Fife was split in half. Suppose only time will tell how things map out Wink

do you know which transmitter you're served by? Or are you more concerned about DSat postcode allocations?

It has a point, it can cover News from the appropriate areas of your Region rather than being biased to one and another. I've never watched any News at all from STV so I cannot comment, but they for instance might be biased towards Glasgow rather than Edinburgh, and maybe viewers in Edinburgh aren't pleased with the service they're getting, so they're splitting it to satisfy more of the audience.

London doesn't have a split for the same reason as Granada simply because only one transmitter serves the region, so you're stuck with it. I'd love a sub-Regional News on Granada, as they usually have a tendancy to report events in Manchester or Liverpool, rather than Cheshire or Lancashire.

Be glad you're getting a split News from STV, ITV merged Central News South and Meridian Tonight West to create a merged Region meaning a combined News service for these areas when they've been used to sub-Regional News.
