Did anyone else notice, that John MacKay from Scotland Today, was the newsreader in Rebus on Friday evening?

I noticed that too. Now people around the UK can listen to the main man. Very Happy

Who would want to listen to him around the UK?? He is a regional news presenter - not Dan Rather Exclamation

Here's a tip: don't have an atitude like that as soon as you've joined. I was only expressing my opinion, implying that I think John Mackay is an exceptional newsreader. (Welcome to TVF anyway.)

Here's a tip back at ya - you should get out more! After having lived in Scotland for several years and having experienced the 'delights' of Scotland Today and Reporting Scotland, my opinion is as valid as any other.

I cannot believe the fawning attributed to the likes of Shereen Nanjiani's redundancy and the new Scotland Today with John McKay. The pair of them are very average regional news presenters. Nothing more, nothing less.

Have to say, with three of the biggest stories possible in Scotland happening over the weekend (murder investigation, Tommy Sheridan's latest fiasco and an abduction) I'm amazed STV have stuck with just doing a five minute local news programme. I know staffing is at a smaller scale at the weekend, but it would surely be possible to make an exception for one day.

In terms of general presentation there needs to be a bit more of a flow to the programme. The weather is at least part of the programme itself now (albeit the flythrough is utterly pointless and timefilling), but it then stops and starts again for Scotland This Week, then stops and starts again for the ITV News. Surely viewers would retain interest more if each linked into each other (eg "That's the news for now, here's a look back at what happened this week, then back to the presenter for "Now the ITV news")

Hi Everyone! Very Happy Just back from a week's holiday in Majorca!Cool

John is an absolute legend by far - FACT! He took over Shereen's position as Head Anchor on Scotland Today, when she left the show back in May. I never actually thought there would be anyone to replace her, however - although I definetly thought that John was in with a chance due to his fantastic sense of humour, charm and his natural approach to newscasting.

Welcome back from Majorca. Which part did you go to specifically?

Anyway, I have never been able to warm to John McKay at all. He always seems a bit too boyish to be reading the news. Have never been able to take him seriously. I preferred Angus Simpson in that chair to be honest..........he had it all.

Oh yes, I am sure that in years to come, statues will be placed across the land in honour of this legend who reads the local news!

Really, some people on here need to get a grip on reality - lmao.

Caught a glimpse of former Scotland Today Sportscaster (and sometimes Newsreader in the 90's) Martin Giessler, in the Darfur region of Sudan, doing a piece for CNN International.

Nice to see that he's moved on to bigger things - I always thought of him as a cheeky young laddie, when he used to appear alongside Viv and Shereen.

Didn't know he had gone to CNN though, or it possibly could have been an ITN pooled report?? (there were no credentials given at the end of the report, so difficult to know..)
