Where did u hear this TV Mole? I assume this will affect our newsrooms north of the border, even though there's been no official announcment up here.

I am not too sure if this action takes place in SMG stations? I heard that only English and Welsh newsrooms were staging a walkout..but I may be wrong!!

True. Wasn't there meant to be some sort of strike action at SMG, as a result of the redundancies?
I don't think we've heard any more on that - have we?

I knew things were building up, and ITV were having meetings with the Unions, but this is the first thing I've heard about a date for the Strike. This will only affect every ITV Region in England and Wales, excluding London, where the ITV London News is produced by ITN rather than ITV.
It'll be interesting to see what happens, if the strike happens, though I'd guess we'd probably see some form of repeat of the BBC Strike last year, where there were few reports and Programme Editors presenting the News, which was the case in the majority of Regions.

ITV faces strike threat over pay
Wednesday March 29, 2006

ITV is facing an editorial strike after a National Union of Journalists ballot voted in favour of taking action in a dispute over pay.
Representatives of the NUJ across the network will be meeting management tomorrow to discuss a strike or series of strikes.
The dispute affects ITV's regional news and programming operations in England and Wales excluding London, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
The results of the ballot showed that 58.4% of those who voted were in favour of striking. The turnout was 61% of the 300 staff that are members of the NUJ.
The dispute arose over an NUJ claim for an "enhanced responsibility agreement" for further pay because staff are now required to learn additional skills as ITV newsrooms are undergoing a 'digitising' of the news delivery process.
The union claims staff should receive additional pay for the extra skills and responsibilities they are taking on.
"NUJ representatives across ITV are meeting tomorrow to consider the result of the campaign and consider the next stage," said Paul McLaughlin, the national broadcasting organiser at the NUJ.
"We want dialogue, they don't, the next step is to take action."

There are also articles at www.nuj.org.uk under the 'news' section.
ITV Central are having an additional dispute over working patterns, presumably striking on the same day. Before anyone stresses, I know I posted this in the CNE thread a couple of weeks ago!!
I wonder what they will put in the 1800-1900 slot on Apr 18? More badly-edited re-runs of the POG show?!
