Channel 4 news is now switching it coverage to its election spending reports from 2015 and how up to 30 people might get charged, and are asking people in relation to this election to that.
How much of a shock announcement was this I wonder, Harry Gration is hosting Look North from Westminster. Either they already knew in advance or they've just wasted half the regional news budget on load of walk up return train tickets!

Not sure about Harry Gration but this was hardly a shock - ever since May became leader the prospect has been bought up practically weekly.
Mair: "Do you have plans for June the 8th?"
Dimbleby: "Yes, I had plans for June the 8th - we were planning to do a Question Time! I guess we'll have to reschedule it for June the 9th!"
No confirmation either way there...
Hasty re-booking of studio 'D' & a good root around in the scenery cupboard for the old election set and a pot of paint.
It's a funny one, really, because it's been floated as a "could it be possible?" for the last nine months as Brekkie says, and the FTPA is no block if the opposition acquiesce to a snap election (and this one was always likely to). However, it was never a certainty, its timing was unknown and unknowable, and it's actually happened just as it looked like it was probably not going to happen!
From a presentation standpoint, because that's what this place is about... I would presume that the broadcasters made contingency plans for "what if a snap election is held?" without knowing if they'd be sprung into action, and certainly not knowing when. (And, as mentioned, it was even becoming a bigger "if" in recent weeks. In retrospect, May's been in campaign mode for a while.) So I'm sure that airing Look North from Westminster tonight was indeed the result of everyone dropping everything and heading down the East Coast Main Line.
I imagine all concerned being unable to book studios, equipment, etc etc. ahead of time, because of not knowing when they'd need them - but having procedures at the ready to go after them if and when Theresa made the call.
It's certainly been a busy day for those of us who work in the broadcast/news industry. It's fast news days like this (as Skygeek and others on here who help produce output) that are some of the most exciting.
I would expect all the presentation and studio sets to be the same as in 2015 and for the EU referendum in 2016. Technology is basically the same, no broadcaster will be aiming to show off some new kit, and also nobody has changed looks so they won't be showing off a new studio (Except for Sky News of course)
I expect it'll be Dimbleby on BBC One, as has been said, it's so close to the last two that it's basically the same 'generation' rather than five years from now and a new era with a clean break kicking in.
Without going too far into politics, I expect the whole thing will be done by 9am...
If previous elections (2010 excepted) are anything to go by there'll be a result well before that. However there'll still be results coming in long after 9am, the Northern Ireland constituencies don't usually start counting till 9am

I imagine your right. I've heard that election planning starts months if not years out. Doesn't it take a long time to plan out new sets and graphics? Let alone a virtual studio.
