Couldn't agree more with this. Well done ITV News!

I wonder, will the BBC and co rip down the election sets or keep them up just in case? although they say another election would be near the end of the year if it happened.

The BBC's set is in a general purpose studio used for all sorts of programming, in fact I believe they had to shift some other shows out of the studio to make way for the election.

Another election soon is very unlikely but would be at least 4 weeks away if it was announced. I'd be surprised if the set is still intact now.

What was with the odd framing of Thesera May when she was doing her speech outside Downing Street? I'm no camera expert but it seems like she's too far down the bottom of the screen which is exacerbated by news channel lower thirds.

I think they were trying to get in the 10 of the door, but it didn't quite work.

I thought that myself and expected them to remove the lower thirds. It looked slightly better on ITV as they only had the seat numbers on screen.

Yeah I saw it on ITV when it was going out live, as you say it didn't look too bad but definitely looked wrong to me. Just saw it on Sky and the lower thirds make it look even worse.

I'm pretty certain the director for last night's coverage was Jon Roberts - if so it's no surprise that ITV came out on top. He's a very talented director and - for what it's worth - a thoroughly nice guy. I've met him on a few occasions now and he's the sort of director who will happily stop and have a chat to you as a visitor in the control room. He's a great director supported by an equally great team. Last night's performance was a real credit to ITN.

Going back to the conversation we were having around 24 hours ago expressing surprise that EuroNews and France24 were happily discussing the election on air while the polls were open (a clear breach of OFCOM rules and possibly the Representation of the People Act), I thought I'd see what happened if I put in an OFCOM complaint.

They replied impressively quickly to say that, as speculated on here, they are subject to the French regulator rather than OFCOM so they are not subject to OFCOM's rules or authority. Broadcast licenses from across the EU are "recognised" across Europe.

Which seems to be a hell of a loophole, and makes a mockery of the rules which affect domestically licensed channels. I'm amazed that Fox News haven't moved their uplink and regulation to another country to avoid the issue they had yesterday.

Presumably it's cheaper to uplink from the UK as I would assume it's done via Sky. I doubt Fox News would be bothered about the loss of its normally tiny number of viewers in the UK yesterday. It may be that UK regulations allow them to get away with more in terms of their content than other countries might - that's the reason some foreign channels are registered and uplinked from the UK.

Will be frustrating that once again the BBC will come out on top (and with a clear majority) when Dimblebly is clearly beyond his best, they're slow with the results and frankly bigger isn't always better when it comes to the studio.

Sky seems to have been highly regarded (I didn't see much), whilst as always ITV did a great job and Tom Bradby thrives on election night IMO - but I do think they really missed having a second or even third person in the studio to do the virtual graphics and the soft set interviews. It was a bit awkward at times having Tom move around the studio to do another job.

C4 not quite getting it right with the Alternative Election I think - running ads immediately puts it behind the ad-free ITV and Sky News coverage, while Paxman is just annoying now. I really like the idea of a more entertainment based alternative so they probably went too much the other way with a fairly strong panel of politicians and experts, but losing that wouldn't help either. They could have done with continuing beyond 6am given the result too.
