Oh maybe - my memory is that he was a guest throughout it and they kept him in the panel bits for ages as he was good, but maybe not billed as a host.
Yes, Paxman and Mitchell were the two official hosts, but Osman was about throughout the evening and I think he was the only person to be there for the entire show. The bit I most remember is Cathy Newman suggesting Miliband would be "gone by the morning" and Osman laughing, then apologising for laughing. It was the way she said it, apparently.
I genuinely believe it's unlikely Huw Edwards will get the General Election gigs now. Either Andrew Neil will host post Dimbleby or or Paxman will be back at the corperation doing QT and Election Nights. Watching some of the local election coverage the other weeks shows whilst competent Edwards lacks that glint in the eye and sense of humour making required to make the long hours more watchable.
I don't know why Paxman would come back, he seems perfectly happy with what he's doing now. In any case he seems totally unsuited to an evening where he's talking to a much wider audience than usual, including many who have no interest in politics the rest of the time. The same is true with Andrew Neil, he's far better served doing the interviews and his own thing rather than having to anchor everything. It was different with the US Election as the host does everything, and also it's aimed at a far more specialised audience.
I don't see what's wrong with Huw doing it, David is hardly a barrel of laughs. He was certainly responsible for my favourite bit of the last election, at the end of the show where he thanked all the others for being there and asking them their most memorable moments like a little appraisal. He's got a great sense of humour.
Shall I dig out that clip of him playing the piano for Tom Jones in the BBC1 Christmas trailer? I don't recall David Dimbleby doing a lot of that.
