I'm surprised they're not using Andrew Neil for the Day/Paxman interviews overnight.
Andrew Neil did a very good job last time and got the memorable "I'll eat my hat" quote from Paddy Ashdown.

I agree Huw has been superb on the BBC Wales coverage over the years, but thinking about it would Huw be the first "most senior news presenter" at the BBC to actually anchor election coverage. Traditionally that has not been the case - and indeed certainly since the 90s up until last year hadn't been at ITV either.
I wouldn't be surprised though if Huw did step away from the Ten in the near future to take on a more Dimbleby style role at the BBC.
Considering the amount of information coming in it's surprising really both the BBC and ITV usually rely on a sole anchor for the night, though of course they are supported by a team away from the main desk.
Not a lot of love for Huw Edwards here and I don't understand why.
Personally, he has the gavitas and past anchoring experience doing the BBC Wales election night coverage. As much as Emily and Mishal are prominent figures and are more than competent, Huw Edwards is the BBC's most senior news presenter, you'd want him covering one of the biggest events of the year.

Am I the only that thinks a jointly led election night with Maitlis and Hussain would be a better watch going forward than giving it to Edwards?

I think that's correct. This means that Andrew Marr is guaranteed to be on BBC Oneevery Sunday regardless of special events.
I assume the election was the reason why the first 90 mins of the London Marathon was moved to BBC Two, to allow Marr to move back to BBC One

I would hope so. The Last Leg also confirmed on Friday's final episode of the series they'll be back with some pre-election specials.
Thats good to hear, there could come back from 19th may at least, and then do four shows.

Well, if they can mount a General Election with seven weeks' notice, you would assume they could organise a few telly shows in that time.

I guess with the Last Leg it depends upon Adam, Alex, and Josh's availability. Potentially Josh or Adam might have tours scheduled, and particularly in Adam Hills's case might not have planned to have been still in the country.

One thing I have noticed, it may be because of the relatively surprise news of the election being called, is that BBC/ITV/Sky don't seem to have yet assigned correspondents to follow a particular party (eg. In 2015 Carl Dinnen followed Labour, James Mates Conservatives and Emily Morgan Lib Dem) Will that be happening on this occasion do we know or will it be a case of everyone covering a bit of every party as/when required?
Have to say Peston on Sunday and Sophie Ridge on Sunday are both breaths of fresh air and will most surely come into their own over the next few weeks, much prefer the interview style of both of them to Andrew Marr's recently. It would be nice to see Sky News put Sophie in the kind of Paxman/Andrew Neil role the BBC have used over the years, on the Election night. Will be interesting to see if Dermot Murnaghan takes Sunrise on this occasion, the following morning or if Sarah Jane does it.
Sorry to be slightly late to the party, RE: BBC Election Night- for me I think it's completely the wrong decision to have opted for David. I respect the fact he has done it well over many years and is what people are used to. However, I really feel he has began to lose it in recent years, the way he has chaired Question Time has become frustrating and his anchoring of the referendum wasn't great. I think it's slightly stupid also they confirm Huw would anchor the next election and then drop back on it, just because it happened sooner than anticipated, hardly a vote of confidence in their news presenter who always handles major events perfectly. I would feel pretty aggrieved if I were Huw.
Equally strange is the lack of Andrew Neil, unless of course as someone of suggested its through personal choice. I would hope Mishal out of the two is in his role, with Emily sticking to her usual role, as she does this so well. Slightly surprised no mention of Sophie Raworth also, given how good a job she did of handling the aftermath of the Brexit vote and anchoring the resignation of David Cameron. For me it would of made far more sense to have Huw anchor overnight, Sophie take over at Breakfast and deploy David on a Question Time special the following evening and perhaps a TV debate if there is one.
