As you say, this election is basically Part 3 of a three part series, so it makes sense for Dimbleby to finish the story.

Given that they already did the "formal handover" as such with 2015, I'd have preferred Edwards for 2017. But said handover was naturally based on the assumption that there wouldn't be an election until 2020, and Dimbleby has already handled one results show (that came about precisely because of the result of 2015) since then. Now, at least indirectly because of the result of
that
vote, there's another one.
Maybe his plan was to retire when he turns 80 next October. That would certainly be consistent with him planning on 2015 to be his last one, only to step in for the snap election. Worth noting that a snap election resets the term length under the provisions of the Fixed-Term Parliament Act, so 5 May 2022 is now the scheduled date for the next election after this one. I think we can safely assume that Huw would take charge of that one.

Or good timing considering the Murdochs views on Corbyn.
Annoyingly it's the last in the series this week and I doubt it's due back until later in the summer though perhaps they'll be able to get a one off together in election week.
P.S. If Dimbleby must host the coverage can he at least do it right through so at least Huw could return to anchor the BBC Wales coverage and therefore viewers have the choice of Huw or Dimbleby. Actually this time around can't see there being much fallout the following morning so wouldn't be surprised if there isn't really anything scheduled beyond the breakfast slot.
Sky loose the Labour feed just as Corbyn was about to speak. Bad timing!

Will the last leg be coming back ?

If it follows the script then the only possible fallout is Corbyn falling on his sword, and even that is far, far from a given. But I could certainly see both ITV and BBC One going with normal programming after breakfast, with presumably a Corbyn resignation causing them to break into said normal programming. I believe that election coverage continued after breakfast in 2015 because Clegg and Miliband resignations were anticipated hours in advance?

I hope the Lib Dems get a new party election broadcast for the general election, I must have seen their current one 4 times, and that's only on ITV.
Seriously, I wonder is this the first time a general election has been called but the PEB's airing are actually relating to another election taking place before hand.

I don't think any election goes 100% smooth, just watch election 79 with DD.
This is very disappointing news. I agree wholeheartedly that his last election was messy and all over the place. I also watched elsewhere.

So Mishal is doing the Robin Day/Paxman interview segments overnight?
