Oh and does this always happen?

Yes, always.

And I'd love to know exactly why.

Anyone in St Helier or Plymouth care to spill the beans?

I'm sure someone told me about this once - they put that strap on because the line at this point, "now we join our news teams across the UK", doesn't apply to the Channel Islands.

The Channel Islands are not strictly part of the UK, although they are a British territory and part of the British Isles (not quite sure of the technicalities), so this strap is used to avoid any confusion on that count.

And perhaps more importantly, to avoid upsetting the Channel Islanders by lumping them in with the UK.

EDIT: Leftofmiddle beat me to it!

I commented to 'er indoors as we watched, that the height of the back of that red chair made her look only about three-foot-six tall, but if she used to be at Border, then that chair back must be far shorter than she's used to.

Yes, the chair is far too big.... does she write the feem toon? Laughing

And despite all the new facilities the astons still fade on and off v e r y s l o w l y ... looks very wrong

Here is a gallery of photos from the last broadcast at the old Fremont studio to the first at the Parade Road studio.

Great stuff.

Was just looking at other pictures on the site. I think I noticed a few Macs there. Do you use Macs to edit videos and/or websites?

well no, one would need to build a 7 story building to fit one of Border's old chairs in.

For a small set it's very impressive and nice looking although that seat does look daft.

The clifftop and lighthouse backgrounds look great, they should use them for behind the newsreader instead of the fake newsroom thing

Unfortunatly we use PCs (very good PCs, but still PCs) for running the website - Spotlight CI uses macs and Final Cut Pro for editing video.

That's very interesting! Was just asking because we use Final Cut and Macs ourselves to do our video (I work at the Media Centre at Highlands College) and I didn't think that anyone in Jersey used Macs for professional video. We've only really ever worked with Channel who use Avid on PCs I think.

If the beeb ever need Mac help, contact me I support our Mac network amongst other things Laughing

Nice to see that Jersey is the only region* that has its opt chain set up "properly" - if Leeds tried this it would end up with curtains in 14:9.

*Although I guess that's more to do with the fact that there isn't an analogue version of BBC1 CI as it's DSat derived

wow I think that studio looks brilliant. The old fake newsroom looks amazing, the lighthouse ect. looks amazing and suits it perfectly. The desk is ok, don't love it but it seems good. It looks pretty good, compared to some studios.
