I didn't know whether this was needed, but I thought I start it anyway!

Sky Sports News movin' to 16:9 (I Hope) Could this call for a slight de-clutter?
Why do Sports news services need less than three quarters of the screen taken up by junk anyway? If I would do it, I'd have 2 tickers, a score bar, and a headline bar.

Setanta Sports News were broadcasting yesterday without the side bar. Looked much nicer on screen.

Just checked now and the side bar is back

I prefer Sky Sports News in 4:3, but that might be because the TV in my room is 4:3, and SSN is the only channel I can watch properly.

There is little point in channels using a ticker and a sidebar broadcasting in 16:9 if they want to keep those viewing on 4:3 TVs without letterbox mode.

I think you'll be waiting a long time for the likes of Sky/Setanta Sports News and Bloomberg to change to 16:9. It's only recently that some of the main broadcasters have been prepared to push their DOGs out of the 4:3 safe area.

Erm, Setanta Sports News went 16:9 earlier this year. Sky Sports News is due to go HD (and therefore 16:9) sometime in the next 18 or so months.

Wow! Setanta Sports News does look good without the sidebar! Do you think it will be a regular occurance?

I see no reason for the sidebar most of the week. It's handy on Saturdays and midweek when games are in play, but completely unnecessary most of the rest of the week.

Yeah, and it does look really good without it, overall setanta have the best presentation?

No Joan, as it looks like something PremPlus would have had or something Sky rejected 10 years ago.

I agree. However, the new look is an improvement over the other look, which always seemed to hurt my eyes.
