What's the names of those two news presenters in the various shots, above?

That's Justin Leigh and Victoria Graham (wife of Simon McCoy of the BBC NC)

A few interesting captures of the studio from a short recruitment promotion for the "BBC Audience Council of England" which was shown after last night's Spotlight. They'd changed the green light behind the CSO weather screen to red, perhaps to better match the rest of the set.

The regional Breakfast clock has returned this week. Although it's doesn't even try to masquerade as the network clock this time.

It's on the other side of the screen to avoid the "BBC SPOTLIGHT" label.

A bit of a first tonight - or at least something that doesn't happen in a while - BBC Radio Cornwall breakfast presenter James Churchfield is standing in for Justin Leigh alongside Victoria Graham tonight.

He did pretty well for a first-timer, too - a little wooden when Victoria was speaking but otherwise very good. Obviously he's an experienced radio broadcaster but live television is a very different beast; has he ever done any before?

Yes he did ok, in looks he reminds me a bit of Thom Yorke or that bloke from Deliverance

Both BBC Spotlight and Westcountry's lunchtime news came from the same location in Ottery St Mary, scene of heavy wintery conditions, around 6 inches of sleet and hail falling in a little over an hour, with flash flooding from rain adding to the problems.

Justin Leigh was on location for BBC Spotlight, whilst Jemma Woodman and Weather presenter Kate Reeves were there for Westcountry News. Both programmes will air from Ottery St Mary tonight.

That area could now be lit with multi-coloured LED lighting - which would allow it to be green or blue for chroma key purposes, but lit red for when it might appear in-vision without any keying.

With modern chroma-keying it is now easier to do a tight clip of a particular hue of red, without having as many problems with lips etc.

Which begs the question why Alex Bushell has also been sent to cover the story for the BBC NC.

He's a well known face for south-west viewers, so I'm sure he could provide a live insert for BBC Spotlight without the need for Justin Leigh & Victoria Graham to traipse up there too Exmoor (with associated crew).

However, it was another great chance for them to do the extended version of David Lowe's English 'regional news end sequenece' for the second time this month (the other was the Exeter Bomber Trial report), viz::

Well, the whole programme came from Ottery St Mary. Justin was joined by Victoria Graham and David Braine, who'd obviously gone up there after the lunchtime bulletin. A news summary was delivered by Natalie Cornah mid programme, probably to give them chance to have a hot cup of tea, as it is very cold out there tonight.

Alex could report live to the news channel, giving Justin a chance to film some interviews.

There was a special weather globe tonight - the usual night-time one, but with an added extra of pumpkin faces in the globe...

Was this used nationally or just in the South West?

I believe Alex Bushell has been seconded to the NC, he's appeared 'out of region' on a few occasions latterly.
