I'm not sure why that's considered better than using the sofa or the desk! Since they're using the normal studio I can't see how it's cheaper either. Doesn't look very nice at all.

less lighting/crew required?

I don't see how it requires less crew. The cameras are controlled from the gallery anyway, so surely it doesn't matter whether you use one or two fixed camera shots.

The sofa area is a much better position to present from in the mornings. I am certainly not a fan of this new arrangement.

Something odd going on in Plymouth this morning with the Breakfast bulletins. This CSO set up isn't from the normal studio, and it doesn't look as though it was put together at the last minute. I don't even recognise the presenter.

EDIT: I don't think it's CSO, I think she's sat in front of one of the plasma screens in the main studio.

I'm always the exception but other than them just filming a plasma I quite like that backdrop - simple but it works.

But why bother having a sofa area, if you're not going to use it for Breakfast bulletins? It's not used for anything else.

Isn't the sofa area redressed for Sunday Politics? Just a thought, maybe they had left it dressed for Sunday Politicas for an interview for the upcoming show this week, hence why the sofa area couldn't be used this morning.

Yes, the sofa area is re-dressed for SP, but that's recorded on a Friday afternoon.

This morning they were still using the "bar stool & bistro table" set up: although the table was slightly lower, and they'd framed the shot better to exclude the bevel edge of the plasma screen.

Apologies for appalling quality of my capture software Embarassed

There is some animation in the background picture: but, blimey, the average punter would be hard pushed to spot the bird flying behind the Spotlight banner, or the rippling water effect at the bottom. Shocked It's about as obvious as the animation on the screens in Salford.

I think they should abandon this idea and go back to the sofa. It's much more welcoming and friendly first thing in the morning. Very Happy

I know that, but that's not what I was talking about.

Production for that programme goes on all week, and maybe someone they wanted to book for this week's show wouldn't be available for the normal recording and they arranged to get them in and pre-record whatever they needed before the normal recording. Instead of doing it on the sofa, they kept the Sunday Politics set dressing in.

The same thing is often done in dramas where you have video material on a screen that actors have to interact with and that is often shot before principal photography begins.

Of couorse the other possibility is they're looking to change the breakfast set-up in Plymouth, new sofa, new set design or something, and this is a temporary set up, which honestly, it does feel kind of like a temporary set up rather than a permanent change.

Or . . . just a REALLY mad production design decision that they will correct later in the week? Thumbs up

No one complains about this very similar setup for Steph and her business segments, no different here really?
