That weather map appears to show the "South" and "West" (i.e. north) sub-regions combined. Do they not get seperate sub-regional weather maps? Is it because there's a large overlap zone?

Clearly, there must be a seperate Meridian "East" weather map, as the above map definately doesn't feature the southeast. I guess there must also be a fully pan-regional map too, for bulletins during GMTV????

Also, has Anglia never had seperate East/West sub-regional weather maps? Again, is this due to a large overlap zone?

Guess she's there for cover whenever a region needs a weather presenter. I wouldn't have minded seeing Carl Tyler once more (he came out of retirement for one day late last year), but Philippa did a good job. One thing that niggles me about Gemma is that her ITV Local forecasts are so brief! Otherwise I like Gemma. Smile

'Smooth' Martyn Davies was back on Meridian today. I think the first time since the relaunch. Love the tan though. Laughing

Well, its official. Carl Tyler has been brought out of retirement to do a forecast tonight.

If I'm right I think the Meridian region has had four different individuals doing the forecasts this week: Robin Lermitte, Philippa Drew, Martyn Davies and Carl Tyler, though five if you include Gemma Humphries last weekend. Unbelievable! Very Happy

Great to see Carl Tyler once again. I do remember Trevor 'The Weather' Baker albeit vaguely (I was six when he retired from TVS), but I always grew up with Carl Tyler. A true legend. Very Happy

To complete the pciture, in case anyone's interested about the old Maidstone newsroom, it has been turned back into an anonymous industrial unit, still up for sale.

What *did* happen to the building in New Hythe (near Larkfield)? Its some ten years since I was last in that area so apologies if we're (literally) going over old ground...

I'm sure he advertised double glazing on the back of buses in Hastings!

As I said in my post above William, it's now just an anonymous warehouse awaiting a new occupant. The large newsroom window on one side of the building has been bricked up and all the logos, signage and satellite dishes have disappeared.

Even more importantly, the staff car park at the very end of Westmead (which Meridian never used, and where I used to park up at lunchtime to feed my face) is now completely fenced off along with the building - I presume it's now private property Sad

Nothing for me can beat the Mike Debens and Ron Lobeck combination. Bev and Geoff get pretty close though. Phil and Charlotte border on the cringeworthy Confused

Yes, there is a separate map for the east - IIRC when Meridian first started they divided the east map further into Kent and East Sussex. I think when pan regional forecasts are shown, the south and west sub-regions are shown first, followed by the east.

Yes that was the case, strangely in those broadcasts the forecaster would always refer to that area as 'you' for example:-

Cloud for Dorset etc, and 'you' in Kent will be sunny always refering to that region as if it is not ment to be part of the forecast.

Does anybody know the area coverd in Essex? as in how much of an overlap there is, and rough area?
I know Southend is coverd but does it extended further East?

On another note, BBC South pick up awards from RTS, Sally Taylor notably for the Spinaker Tower coverage, the other awards were picked up for Spinaker Tower coverage as well.

Ron Lobeck - brilliant. He brought sunshine to the weather.

Whatever happened to Mike Debens? Last I heard, he moved to France but I've never seen him on TV since 1997 when he left Meridian! There's a great outtake of him getting stressed out on TVS when he was told to "sparkle". Laughing
