Sky already have police experts on the phone while the BBC have been told only minor injuries (which fits the footage of the aftermath)

I was in South Kensington around 5pm and there were still a couple of crews by the tube station, along with some self shooting VJ's.

Just to add, a big contrast in coverage on BBC and ITV London as it's a Saturday.

BBC London had a tiny bit on the crash after the weather, using VT from network. ITV London had a reporter at the scene with a live.

As the tweet itself says, they're now RTCs. Though I suppose it depends if you still fax a complaint to the IBA, or whether you EM a complaint to Ofcom.

That is not the way I expected that comparison to go.

I was on a long drive this afternoon and I note that on the radio, that station that is usually well known for extensive high quality news coverage, Capital were going all out with this story providing half hourly updates from 'Global's newsroom'. I can only assume it's because it was a London story and they are still kind of a London local radio station that just happens to be networked across the country.

Though the story had been covered on the national bulletin immediately beforehand so given the limited duration of both bulletins it would seem sensible to not provide much more which would probably be repeating the same information.

There's a tricky balance to be struck with national and local news. Certainly Reporting Scotland seems to have always had the logic that someone may not have watched the national news beforehand and may specifically tune in for Scottish news, so will duplicate the story or try to find a new angle. I don't know if that would apply to people specifically tuning in for the London news, it certainly never seems as important.

There's also a possibility that, given limited resources, priority would go to national services.

I suppose once it became clear it was an RTA in theory it's just another road crash in London. But given the high-profile coverage of the afternoon it would have struck me that it would still be important enough at that stage, given it's what everyone would be talking about.

Saturday on BBC London at least is largely pre-planned VT's that would have been produced in the week, so the running order stayed as it was, then the weather and then the RTA in South Ken. Shows how under-resourced BBC regional news is on a Saturday.
