Just a quick question that I've wondered about for a very long time: just how good is the soundproofing in the studios in Television Centre? If, for example, there was a very loud clap of thunder immediately outside, would this be heard inside and picked up by the microphones? I would have thought this would be particularly likely to happen in studios such as BBC News 24's, which are converted office space instead of custom-built. Can anyone enlighten me?

To be honest I doubt it, I suspect the mic's are close range only (the lapel ones). If you take N24 as an example, you can only faintly hear people in the newroom which I suspect are talking full volume, and the windows are probally double glassed.

Similarly the back-up microphones in the N24 studio are hardly that effective as when the lapel ones have failed in the past, it has been rather quiet only hearing the echoing sound of the presenter in the studio, not that clearly so I doubt something such as a rumble of thunder would be heard.
