Was Sophie Raworth a correspondent for the BBC before doing Breakfast and the Six News? If so for how long and what did she do.
Cheers!.... Very Happy

From memory, she presented Look North regional news for a while.

southwales - to draw a comparison between Moira and Ben Brown is similar to doing so between chalk and cheese. Moira's a newsreader and Ben is a reporter - they're both completely different skills. I would imagine Ben Brown wouldn't be all that brilliant if he was placed in a studio, just as Moira wouldn't be able to handle a tank in Fallujah. I wouldn't consider your case won.

Ben Brown presented the news on BBC World some weekends ago and I have to say that he was quite good IMO.

It is interesting to note that newsreaders used to 'come up through the ranks' from being reporters in a much more obvious way (this being in the days of three national bulletins and a few odd summaries a day and no N24 etc).

I can still remember when Michael Buerk moved from being a reporter to his first presenting job (the One in the 'white clock' era) - he was fairly bad (particularly wooden), but clearly grew into being the revered newsreader he's become.
Likewise, I can recall John Simpson reading the news (in the lantern set, I think) - frankly, he wasn't great (and I think also wasn't comfortable, which is probably partly why he has his seniority post in the field).
Ben Brown may well one day be seen reading national news bulletins, who knows?
I presume all the current national and N24 newsreaders must have done some reporting before going into presenting.

I can't help thinking that Southwales is trying to wind up and annoy as many people as possible.

I think you're right, Charlie.

James, any chance you could tell us who this 'mystery face' is? It's not our Moria is it?
