I was not saying that Natasha is no good as a presenter,

I never said you did.

i was just stating that Natasha has no formal qualifications to say that she is a journalist, she has a degree in English. But she has had the training of a journalist .

Is that not condtadictory - she has had the training - but she isn't a jounrnalist??? - so you say

Well my point is Moira has had the same training. So you can't call Natasha a journalist and Moira not.

Yes i can. Natasha is a journalist. Moira is not.

How could anybody who has worked in broadcast news for the length of time Moira has not be classed as a journalist? Just because she hasn't got a journalism qualification doesn't mean she isn't a journalist. Many have told me that experience goes a long way in that field, not just academia. Moira has more experience than all of the current Six co-presenters put together!

So your telling me Moira has more experience than a former Washington correspondent, and a former world affairs correspondant? Not forgetting a producer, and a Europe correspondent.

I said co-presenter, not lead-presenter. I meant Sophie, Sian, Natasha etc.

Anyway, I would argue that Moira has more experience of presenting the news than former correspondents. Reporting and presenting are very different skills, and Moira has been doing the latter for over 20 years. I think that's what you call experience.

But there is no 'co-presenter' They are apparently on an equal level. It isn't like the old days when on presenter would do all the crappy stories, and one all the top stories.

Do you know why she will appear on the six? Is it for her to bow out in true Moira *fabness*?

Maybe the BBC have finally realised after reading this forum that she needs more recognition.

Too right. It's utter nonsense to say that Moira shouldn't be presenting main news bulletins just because she hasn't done a crappy eight-month postgrad course at a former Poly.

I know plenty of people who've done tin-pot journalism courses who are therefore 'qualified journalists' and yet appear to have no journalistic skills whatsoever.

The reason news organisations prefer 'qualified journalists' is mainly because they've been given legal training - and in these days of everyone suing everyone else, they don't want to take chances. However it's very easy to get legal training at a later stage, as I've absolutely no doubt Moira has.

Real journalistic training occurs through working in the industry and actually doing the job. Moira's more than proved she can do the job, so what's the problem?

Lads lads lads - Moira is yesterdays news HYumanga come on time you threw the towel in on this one move these have beens on to the antiques roadshow and lets have the cutting edge , Jane , Sophie, Louise Minchin, Jon Sopel and Fiona. In my opinion Sian would be better presenting changing rooms and Moira well back on that awful space challenge game programme she did years ago !!!

We do have first class journalists the like of George and Jeremy whose wealth of reporting give them the gravitas.

I wonder if Moira would live up to the likes of Ben Brown shoved inside a tank approaching Fallujah - I rest my case and consider my point won.

What a coherent argument that wasn't. For goodness sake, people. Give it up.

Was Sophie Raworth a correspondent for the BBC before doing Breakfast and the Six News? If so for how long and what did she do.
Cheers!.... Very Happy
