Breaking news, 12.45pm: Around a fifth of jobs at Scottish TV and Grampian TV are to be cut, with one inside source describing the cuts in the newsrooms as "brutal". It follows meetings this morning, beginning with senior management at 9.30am.
Earlier today, Spike flagged up fears of job cuts, not least because representatives of trade unions, Bectu and the National Union of Journalists, had been invited to attend a meeting at owners, Scottish Media Group.

Another good reason why SMG own Scottish/Grampian. Neutral

Unlikely, everyone knows who Shereen is. However, I remember when they axed Angus - that didn't go down too well.

First of all on the 'Silly little hatred' comment: Since this is a TV forum discussing TV presentation throughout the UK, I have a right to hate SMG for their laziness as far presentation is concerned (and i'm not the only one). I'm sure if 3 year old presentation with celebrities who are no longer working for ITV reached Central that would be a different story.

Secondly on the ITV plc point: I am not neccessarily saying that ITV plc should take over Scottish/Grampian. I'm saying that any company who cared about what the channel looked on screen should be in charge. Presentation is, of course, what people see before every programme and is one of the most important parts of the channel. They even get ITV to make up the trails (with 4 squares instead of the channel's name).

Junction into 10pm - Bryan Burnett. Who was made redundant from Scottish TV about a year ago now. Nice touch.

The Spitting Image programme on now just re-inforces the impression given by ITV 50 that ITV has almost become a version of UK Gold - constantly reliving its past glories.

You mean they haven't had cuts already? They had a piece on retail this Christmas about spending... except the VT they used of various retail outlets was from... well em a long time ago. 5+ years possibly. Surely we could have been treated to a nice scene of Aberdeens High Street like we usually do whenever there is a story.

You know I think I know that High Street better than any other, and I've never actually visited it.
