The Sun, never shy of a sly plug for Sky, managed to get a dig at BBC News 24 into an article about how there might (or might not) be life on other planets this morning. Under the heading "10 things it might be", number two is "Aliens tuning into News 24. Well, no one here is watching". Despite the fact, of course, that News 24's ratings are rapidly catching Sky News and the latter is about to undergo an expensive revamp in an effort to pull ahead.

Cue wild speculation...

This has been known about for months.

Sky are in the process of constructing a new multi-million pound news centre, with new studios, etc.

They are constructing a whole new News Centre which should be ready for January, which is when Sky News takes over from ITN as news supplier to five.

I've heard murmurings that it will be ready sooner than January because Sky don't want to launch two things from the new studios on the same day (five & Sky News on January 1st). It could happen the other way around though - Five News could be broadcast from there before Sky News moves in.

No sense in rushing things of course!

Perhaps we'll have Sky News from Westminster again towards the end of the year, while they move some gear over to the new building.
