Sky has influenced BBC News 24 in some ways, for example, stand up presenting for no relavant reason. Same applies to ITV News, Channel 4 News also stand up a fair bit.

I think you'll find Channel 5 News might have something to say about that.

I don't see how they can, Sky News now produce it and have sistimatically replaced Five News presenters with their own, for the most part. And of course most of the news stories covered are almost identical to those broadcast on Sky News.

ITV belongs in hell, it is absolute swill.

Surely Channel 5 News influenced Sky News in the stand up in the newsroom thang and surely City News in Canada influenced Channel 5 News... it's all relative - nothing is ever a completely original idea these days just a reinterpretation...

Perhaps, but the real question is who influenced City News in Canada?

...er, Five News did exist before it was made by Sky. It was widely recognised as the pioneer of standing whilst reading the news (in this country), doing so at a time when ITN/BBC were still strictly behind a desk.

True, they do seem to watch, see what they like and use it in a less effective way. You only need look at ITV's artificial video wall and BBC News 24 significantly smaller screens (I think the TV in my room is bigger and has better picture quality, joking of course)...Oh dear, I think I'm sounding a bit bitter now...

The words "Focus" and "Group" have entered the equation, but yes there does seem to be some of this interchanging and to be honest N24's screens are p*ss poor, even though they've been "modified" but bending them around a corner was always going to be a problem...
In a way this is why I think I find BBC World refreshing. There's none of this moving around a studio, instead presenting entirely from the newsdesk.
Would be nice if for once there could be a trend setter other than Sky.

Agreed, that would be refreshing, but I have grown quite fond of Sky News in a non emotional way. Time will tell what effect, if any, Al Jazeera's western news channel will have on the Big 3.

Random thought, and nothing to do with the relaunch

Where do Sky News get their old archive footage from? I'm talking about footage from 70's court cases and such like. There never seems to be a caption saying 'Courtesy of ***' or anything similar.

And Newsround... They were doing it before Five.

Perhaps they brought out an archive company, or amalgamated with another organisation. It could always be a subscription deal with another agency.

There are loads of companies selling archive footage...
Usually Sky deals with Reuters... but (very) occasionally will buy from BBC or ITV
