Just posted this in the Election thread, but I thought I'd post it here too in case any Sky News aficionados can shed any light...

Just watched Peter Snow with his VR graphics on the One... the keying was utterly diabolical - probably the worst keying I've ever seen on the BBC.

Talking of keying (as I was), I've just watched TOTH at 2pm on Sky News. Not only did the two presenters seem to be standing up where the desk would normally be, but it did look to me as though they were keyed over the normal newsroom/videowall background. If it was, it was a very good key indeed - unlike poor Peter Snow's VR shambles!

It's not a CSO at all - they are actually standing behind the desk in the studio.

They had 'The Boulton Factor' last time at 7pm and 11pm, with interviews and discussion.

Was a fantastic programme, and a real shame it didn't turn into an ongoing feature; won a lot of plaudits from the press. I remember a Guardian report just after the election saying that Boulton would get his own show, but it never transpired.

I expect it will after the revamp.

According to the sky news straps today, it will be returning too!

Fair enough. But why? Sounds like Sky News have got a touch of ITV News about them - why sit at the desk when you can stand for no apparent reason? Wink

To vary the shots I suppose, so that they're not always at the desk.
I do like how they're using the newsroom more and more, even if it's just to hand over to a break.
Though they seem to use wierd shots, such as the camera close to the floor looking up, very odd.

Things are looking really slick and polished today - I think the best way to describe it is to say that there's no anchor - or rather, they're all anchors, and there's much less faffing around. At the end of a news roundup, there was no handover, but JT did a 'coming up' live from Rome, straight into a break. At the end of the piece, no, handover, but the studio picked straight back up off the back of him. Plus at the end of the hour, they go from stock exchange to sport to weather, without the main presenters in between.

It flows together really well; I know it's not quite the same kettle of fish, but on the 6 O'Clock News the other day, the presenter in the BBC Bus handed back to the studio, who just thanked them and handed over to the weather. Hardly seems worth it..

Sky News just dropped off Freeview - at around 11.07, after a little flickering, the screen went black. About 2 minutes in, a blue screen with "There is a fault. Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible" in yellow text kicked in, along with a prerecorded announcement saying the same.

It came back at 11.13, but the signal's still a little flickery, and dropping out briefly occasionally.

It's more interesting than the Labour manifesto.

I'm assuming it's only on Freeview. Be a bit of a disaster if it was right across the channel and they missed the entire press conference.

When the service was resumed (it's back off now), the station was in full swing, as if nothing was wrong; probably safe to assume it's not a problem with the gallery, but from TX or beyond..

The same thing happened on Sky Sports News at around 9.30 as well.

It was off on Freeview Crystal Palace until about 5 minutes ago.

Strange.
