Sky News Thread - Relaunch on Monday

I am always a little sceptical of comments like these, I know that this person has more knowledge on the subject than me, but in reality it always seems that re-launches are a positive step. Graphics can set trends, so even if they look weird now, they could look great on screen and be the inspiration for other graphics on TV. For example, a long time ago, shadowed graphics were fashionable, but they soon dropped out of favour, for a cleaner look. Also, I remember the initial reaction to the More4 logo, and now people like it on screen!

I have to disagree.

The ones I've seen may not be the final version - they were about a month ago - but when I say they are awful (at least when static, I've not seen them animating) believe me... they are.

Imagine creating a blue rectangle with a white outline in Powerpoint and then typing with sentence case Helvetica text into the box you've just done. That's literally it.

I expect strongly that by the time they reach the screen next Monday they'll have gone through 5 week's worth of work, and have changed drastically. If they haven't, it'll be a bloody joke.

I cant post a picture of the straps on screen but I will recreate them to post here...

Those graphics look like a cheap imitation of News 24 in terms of layout. It was pointed out a week or so ago that the graphics were being redesigned AGAIN (emphesis not mine), so there is a chance that something better will appear on screen next week.

The ITVNC graphics work much better than that, even the current Sky News graphics are better. The News 24 graphics would blow these away.

Actually they sort of dont look that bad with a image behind them :s

They seem nice and crisp and un-cluttered but seem more suitable to an EPG on SKY or DTT rather than a fast moving news channel!

BBC News 24 and ITV News Channel's graphics and astons seem to work really well - Sky's have always been poorer imho.

I actually think that looks very nice. It's clean and fresh and 'tidy' (though I'm not sure about the subject being in a third box above the other two, that'd be better above the logo/clock).

BUT the reason I like the N24 graphics with their big headlines is that they are attention grabbing and you instantly know what the story they're covering is without having to read any small print.

If these are the new Sky graphics then they aren't attention grabbing enough - though, as I say, they do look very neat.
