I was quote shocked to see Anjalie Rao (sp?) on Sky News Today today. It just shows that the programme was nurtured around Martin and Julies style and nobody can quite hack it, I think Anjalie did well for her first go by the sky news pod.

I don't know Shelia Janson is also quite good when she does it, but yeah it is definately Martin & Julie's programme, or segment.

I know some of you start ranting and raving at speculation about dates, but my pal at Sky Sports News says all the talk from 'next door' ie Sky News is about a move to the new building in August...
and also about the revelation that the news wall in the new studio is 'massive'... much bigger than even their current monster!

I can confirm this too - the information I was told from a reliable source there was August 1.

Sorry, I meant to post this weeks ago, but completely forgot.

I think they were thinking of directly after the election, but it's all been pushed back to get it right.

Sounds good.

I've been informed that there will be a fancy desk (with a difference) too. Is anyone the wiser about what sort of programmes will feature on the new schedule?? Will they completely ditch rolling news??

AFAIK, the desk is going to be rotating, so you can get different angles of the newsroom without moving the presenters around. They'll still be standing around all over the place, though.

My best guess for a schedule is.

6-10 Sunrise as per usual
10-1 Sky News Today
1-5 More Today style stuff, but probably under its own brand this time
5-6 Live at Five
6-7 ?
7-8 Feature show business/politics/etc
8-9 Feature show
9-10 Feature show or news show. Now the Beeb and ITV are doing news at around 10 o'clock, Sky might move it to 9
10.00 - If they don't move it, news at ten, and sportsline at 10.30 - if they do, an hour long feature show
11-12 - feature show (probably politics)

A double-headed overnight with full ticker running. Either this is just because they expect they may have to cover the Pope's death, or it's something permanant.

I doubt it's permanent being introduced on a friday. Plus the newswall will have to be on for 24 hours.
Maybe in the new studio from August when the desk could be moved so that a newswall may not be in shot, they could, but I doubt they will, there's no real need for a double header through the night unless there's breaking news.

The Independent on Sunday has a piece by David Chater with a diary of his coverage of the Zimbabwe election this week.

Sky went doubled headed throughout the entire election campaign in 2001 - morning, noon, overnight. Not entirely sure what the point of it was, but it was certainly an interesting thing to do. Would be surprised if it happened again.

I'd like to see an interview-type show, perhaps fronted by JT, questioning "the people behind the headlines" sort of thing.

They had 'The Boulton Factor' last time at 7pm and 11pm, with interviews and discussion.

Was a fantastic programme, and a real shame it didn't turn into an ongoing feature; won a lot of plaudits from the press. I remember a Guardian report just after the election saying that Boulton would get his own show, but it never transpired.

I expect it will after the revamp.

I saw a new weather sponser today, it was where ian macaskill (sp) was sitting on the plane, and he gets some money off the man behind him, while his forcast is being read out on the aircraft. I only saw a small snippit. Any video, so we can actuly see what happens!

Just posted this in the Election thread, but I thought I'd post it here too in case any Sky News aficionados can shed any light...

Just watched Peter Snow with his VR graphics on the One... the keying was utterly diabolical - probably the worst keying I've ever seen on the BBC.

Talking of keying (as I was), I've just watched TOTH at 2pm on Sky News. Not only did the two presenters seem to be standing up where the desk would normally be, but it did look to me as though they were keyed over the normal newsroom/videowall background. If it was, it was a very good key indeed - unlike poor Peter Snow's VR shambles!
