Breaking News, Media 247 reporting -

A Sky News spokesperson has confirmed to Sky Digi Online that the new-look Sky News will "definitely" not happen next week.

There has been much talk about a Sky News re-launch next week however the Sky News spokesperson was quick to deny this by confirming that the re-launch will not be next week.

A new on-screen look including a new logo and new programme line-ups are expected to take place in the next few weeks.

Sky News continue to remain tight-lipped about the re-launch but keep it with Sky Digi Online for the very latest on this eagerly awaited story.

Ah well, next week off the cards then. Presumably now relaunching towards the end of the month!

thats brilliant isnt it!

NOT

They really should release a date and just make sure they stick to it, even if it requires working all night and day.

So plans for monday are off, damn it!

Yeh, BBC Power cuts, so rehearsals were put back, hence the launch put back.

To be fair, Sky haven't actually announced any 'relaunch' date - not officially anyway. It could well be that the 10th October was just a provisional target rather than a date set in stone.

In my Radio Times, the blurb for next Friday's (14th October) Kelly programme (UTV chat show, 9pm) reads:

"Among Gerry Kelly's guests tonight are former GMTV presenter Eamonn Holmes, who has just started his new job presenting the breakfast show on Sky TV..."

So presumably big Gerry will say to Eamonn, "Well you haven't actually appeared yet, ho-ho(bellylaugh)", and big E will reply, "Yes, the show starts on the *** so please watch then". And then big Gerry will shuffle himself on his tiny chair and comment, "Of course, we all remember you here at Ulster Television when you presented Good Evening Ulster when you were just 21", and Big Eamonn will do a comedy grimace and Gerry will show a clip from Good Evening Ulster to a total of ten seconds and then probably introduce some fiddle orchestra who've come in specially from the country to perform for the pensioners, menopausal women and their hen-pecked husbands in the audience. And so it goes on...

They're axing this show you know.

Not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere, but the 5-6pm hour will be simulcast daily on Sky Three, the free sister channel to Sky One.

It'll be launching at 5pm on October 31st, so Jeremy Thompson will be the first presenter on the new channel.

So thats pretty good anyway. They must be thinking that they would get less and less viewers if they started so early in the morning, the first day would be a slump then.

Why simulcast one freeview station on another freeview station?

Merely a way of getting Sky News higher up the Freeview EPG?

A signal that 5pm-6pm is going to be a more 'light', entertainment news style?

Presumably it's because it's a cheap way of making Sky Three feel like more of a 'full service' channel even though it's largely old material.

Like the controller of More4 was keen to have More4 News as a way of having a live element to a largely automated channel.

Also there may be people who would watch a news programme on a mixed-genre channel who wouldn't dream of watching a rolling news channel.
