The main studios and transmission areas are at Osterley/Isleworth. The Chilworth site is an uplink and also runs the Sky Box Office service I believe.

I've been looking through this thread (i'm sure it's written in here somewhere!) and other various websites but can't seem to find out where sky news is currently broadcast from. I know they are moving to a purpose built studio/news centre in Osterley, London - but where are they now? Some web site said Middlesex/Chilworth. I know you guys are bound to know.

Martin *knows* it's accurate cos a friend of a friend whos dog sniffed the the arse of another dog whos owner used to work for Sky said so. I personally think that the logo will look a bit better than what we've seen on here.

I've just done a quick trace...

The 'NEWS' Font is Helvetica 55 Roman. I expect Sky will probably use it for their astons as well.

I just did it Fireworks, normally I would use Illustrator but zoomed in the quality of the PDF graphics was poor.
I'm not entirely sure about it. Sky do seem now to be changing their logotypes to follow a formula of 'SKY' broadcast logo followed by channel title in another font, whereas before the channel title was in the 'Sky Font', ala the new Sky One logo.

Hmm... I'm not very keen on the use of the Helvetica/Swiss font for the logo. It just looks a bit cheap and lacks impact. Perhaps in a heavier weight it might have been better.
I also think it's a shame they've chosen the same (or almost the same) font as News 24 use on their Astons - especially given the white on red colouring. Normally Sky innovates and leads whilst others follow, but in this case it seems to be the other way round.

Do you expect them to create a new colour or something
The logo looks ok, I think the cureent one worked on a bit more would be better, have to wait and see

Of course I'm not suggesting News 24 were the first people to use red or Swiss/Helvetica. I just don't think it benefits anyone if the two main news channels both use such similar elements in their graphics... and I'm not saying they shouldn't use Swiss, or white on red - but together , it does rather scream 'BBC News'.
As you say though, how everything's used on screen will be the real test... I just think it's rather uninspired for a logo.

Thats stupid. The choice of a font or colours doesnt not mean they are copying from others. Helvetica/Swiss was in use long before the Beeb used it,, by sky no less, and the colorus red and white arent new either.
Its how the graphics are used that counts, form follows function...
