And I thought they wanted to increase audiences during prime time.

I know - it doesn't look good. Shes quite good at bulletin reading but she was absolutely rubbish when she appeared on News 24 last year...

I suppose there is the slimmest hope that she'll have a fairly minor role - something like the Fox News people during prime time hours who literally only read the headline summaries.

Very disappointing to hear that Sky will have a 9pm-midnight 'show' though, if that is indeed the case, rather than some more variety. Sounds like it could be a very boring prime time line up... in fact, if it is just one show it's not really a prime time line up at all.

That is unless, as I said, she is just going to be doing headline summaries in between the programmes. But why the hell do they need yet ANOTHER young, pretty, female newsreader? Let's take a guess, shall we...

1 - is this some sort of projection thing, and is the chromakey bit built into this? or is this the newswall?

"1" definitely looks like the newswall to me in that picture, because if you look carefully it's got an image of the Sky News titles on it (it's clearer in the right hand section - you can see the globe and the lines of latitude with the numbers etc.). But I may be wrong.

To be honest I think 1 may just be set decoration, where as, the presenter closest to us is standing at the newswall...

Forgot to mention that I noticed Chris Roberts in New Orleans yesterday.

He was a Sky correspondent for a long time I think, but since becoming a presenter hasn't left the studio. Interesting to see him out there rather than JT or Julie Etchingham, who've remained at home.

Yes, he joined Sky News in 1998 as a correspondent, became a presenter in 2002.

He was in Banda Aceh in January (05)

It is nice to see him out in the field.. He's currently presenting from Kay Burley's location, so maybe Kay's coming back to London.

Why has the skynewscentre.co.uk closed down?

What's the point of that? I don't like it when decent websites just close without notice. It says coming soon, but I doubt we'll see it again.

Some members of the press were confusing it to (and linking to it as) an official Sky site. See here.

Martin, is your version of the logo with the boring Arial font for the 'News' part the final confirmed logo, and if so how has it been confirmed??

I hope they use a better font (like the Sports part of sky sports logos) for the 'news' bit - otherwise it's going to look awful and boring!

The real problem I have with that red/white logo is that it looks like it would be far more suited to BBC News 24, given just how prominent red and white is on their set. I mean, Sky News could camp out there, stick the logo up on the projection screen, and it would look right at home. It just seems so bizarre that here we have Sky News launching its new home - bringing with it a brand new feel to the channel, and they've developed a logo that looks like something the competition could be using. Surely you'd wanting to be having a visual identity that is distinctive - something that sets you apart from the rest of the field... Not something that looks like you're trying to imitate them.

Totally agree with you!

But Sky probably have something hidden up their sleeves to set the channel apart from the competition - I hope so anyway.
